My son got into pepperdine and really wants to go although i am not sure why. with a 10K grant for FA for first year, that's a lot of dough for a school with what kind of actual reputation?

I think there are a lot of posts on this site that share a lot of good reasons to attend Pepperdine, but I think that college choice is a personal thing. What is he looking for in his college experience, academic goals, etc. Then match up those priorities and find which school on his list most adresses them.

As far as academic...Pepperdine has been a great experience for my daughter. She thrives in the small personal setting that allows for personal relationships between professors and students. It also depend on your major interest. Pepperdine is not Ivy League, but I feel it is a real little gem in California that strives to bring authentic learning to the student. The campus is beautiful, it is a very safe welcoming community. My D still feels it was the best choice for her and my H and have never regretted the sacrifices we have had to make to make this happen for her.

I guess specific questions would be easier to address.

My son has been wait listed at NOrthwestern and would go there in a heartbeat. He has also been admitted to Pepperdine but also has a scholarship to a 3rd tier university which would cut the cost to 1/4 of the cost to go to Pepperdine. Northwestern's reputation is worth it. Is Pepperdine?

It has a very good reputation here on the West Coast. Additionally, the business school is highly regarded and the Law School is ranked quite well, moving up each year. Again, it depends what you are looking for. I feel every sacrific we have made to allow D to go to Pepperdine has been worth it.

You orginally said: "My son got into pepperdine and really wants to go although i am not sure why." Perhaps you should ask him why he wants to go and then list the pros and cons to help with the decision.

You definitely seem to be skeptical, perhaps you should ask specific concerns. Or maybe your gut is telling you this isn't the right fit for your D and your family.

Good luck with your choice and the waitlist.
