Tell me your CC story!

lol malish… 2 years for me… I WIN !
well i was sick tho =/ shoulda sued the doctor while i could…

Thanks all you guys for your stories! I feel much more confindent and I’m sure other readers who are viewing this thread are too. My goal is UCLA so I’ll definitely stick to that plan like WOT said. My major is Molecular, Cellular and Developmental bio at UCLA. I’ve already looked at the admission acceptance raters for this major and it looks good. I also have my schedule planned out according to assist.org. But unfortunatlely my CC doesnt do TAP with UCLA, just UCSD.

If anyone else would like to post their HS stats and CC stats, Id appreciate that because thats what Id like to compare.

Thanks again everyone!

i think u should go to a CC with tap…
it helps… really…
i have friends that are the same major as u and they seriously need to take a ton of units, and more units per semester means higher workload which MIGHT mean lower GPA…
so i think u need to get all the help u can get in order to get in
better be safe than sorry… cuz tap into UCLA at my school is smth like 92%?
well its just my opinion then again…

Also some advice about CC would be appreciated =)

3.3 unweighted in HS
1700 SAT
Politics Club (JSA) 4 Years
Chess Club 2 Years
I didn’t give a damn in high school never studied for a thing even got a few D’s in my Bible courses

Went to CC
Got a 3.4 didn’t study again…
Got into UCLA UCB UCSD UCD
Going to Berkeley with Interdisciplinary Studies
I will finally be motivated to study and thrive doing what I love

1) 2.8
2) okay and 2.9ish (had like a 2.1 and then got mostly A’s the last year to bring it to that)
3) uci ucsb ucd ucsd

1) 3.9, 2070 on SAT
2) 3.958 :), tons of ec’s (relevant and irrelevant to my major- busn admin)
3) UCB

advice for the cc: make sure you have friends outside of the cc because the cc isn’t really a social environment (well at least mine wasn’t) esp if you’re 18/19ish . if you are applying to non-UC schools that require letters of req, make sure you become chummy with a teacher. do well (duh), get involved- not necessarily on campus…none of my ec’s were from the cc.

It sounds like you have it worked out. Just so you know… I have heard that transferring into the sciences can be much harder than transferring into the humanities: More pre-requisites to complete at the CC and the classes are harder. I agree with the previous poster: Be sure to spread the hard courses over several semester and don’t take them all in one semester. Also: While it’s great to have a goal and to strive towards that, please realize that there are plenty of other great schools besides UCLA.

lol i can totally relate to what vrlobo is saying… my classmates alwaes say, hey lets go to this place for a drink and i m like… oh… i m underaged >_<
LOL

Highschool drop out with around a 2.0 + (can’t really remember). Enrolled at a local CCC after dropping out.

CCC/ 4.0 philosophy major/ UCB, UCSD, UCSB, UCLA. Attending UCLA as a Regents Scholar in fall 08.

CC like a lot of things in life is about knowing what you want. If you have a plan and motivation a 4.0 is very possible. All the UC’s are pretty accessible if you come out of CCC with solid grades. Stay focused and remember why your at CC and where you really want to be.

Birchum2, did you have to have an interview for Regents at UCLA?

1)3.3. Special Ed lol. No ECs. No SATs Took basic math(e.g basic addition) for 6 yrs up till sophomore yr. Then during my junior yr, I meticulously self studied algebra 1, geometry, algebra 2 and tested into trig/precalc for summer school at a CC. Earned the highest A over the summer(something I’m quite proud of given my experience). Then during the second half of my senior year, I took calculus1 at a CC and again got an A. Despite all this improvement, my 1st 2 yrs screwed me over for the UCs.

2)My CC experience was much better. I got a 3.9 in hard math and science courses. Tutored students. Ran a math club. Part of my essay was about how much I improved since HS and the confidence I gained as a result.

3) I got into all the UCs I applied to as an applied math major. (UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCD, UCI UCSC). I’m going to UCLA.

Cool thread…couldn’t help but reply…

1.) HS- 3.5 GPA with honors, don’t know too much about my SAT score, didn’t care

2.) CC- 3.67 GPA cumulative, and with IGETC I got A’s and B’s so I suspect that it would be higher, had a bunch of volunteer work and EC’s as well as involvement in music and the arts, graduated with honors.

3.) Applied to Cal, UCLA, UC Davis, UC San Diego and LA State.- Got accepted to everything except Cal.

-Am going to UCLA! Go Bruins!!!

HS-uh. i didn’t technically COMPLETE high school-i did an exit exam (not a CHSPE/GED) but i think my HS GPA was like a 3.2-3.3. not fab.
