Asides from that, how do you manage to have an existant social life when you have 432784 homework assignments to do every night, extra-curriculars, and SAT's to study for? Or do you just become anti-social in the time being?

me=junior. i have dropped half of my social life altogether this year, compared to last year and last last year.
I'm not really into many co-curriculars right now so that's no problem for me.
However, I have my finals in November and every min the library is open (apart from school time), I'm in there studying.
Right now, I'm still a bit 'socially' but in November, there's no way I'm even gonna think about going to a party or something.
After my finals, I have to study for my SATs-french and maths2c (both where I need lots of help in). So, in Dec and Jan, I'm gonna be all by myself while all my friends are bathing in the sun throughout the long holidays :(

Well, it could be fun, relaxing and all around lovely to write a long e-mail to a friend, or to watch a movie, or to stay up and read a book. But the next day, you pay. You're not prepared, you don't have an assignment done, whatever. You become stressed, worried and anxious. Your grade suffers, even if just a little. And often, catch-up is harder than just doing the thing in the first place.

I think it's like racing underwater. If you want to win, take a deep breath, because there's no time to resurface in the middle of the race. As soon as you finish, you can breath again, but if you stop to breath now, you'll lose.

It's like that for me, anyway. You go to the mall, have a sleepover and that's great--but you might spend the entire week paying for a night's bit of fun.

^^I think you're exagerrating the price of a little fun. Time management is the key.

Spread out your homework assignments - do some during the day (lunch, next morning, after school before ECs). Enjoy your weekends. Fridays and Saturdays are your best chances to have fun. Go to a party, stay at a friends house, see a movie, wander aimlessly through the city with your friends Friday night and Saturday - work on Sunday. Seriously, nobody gets enough homework on a normal weekend that can't be done in one day.

About the SAT stuff, you could always just cut back on your prep...at some point, it's just overkill (Then again, I'm the guy whose preparation for the SAT consisted of taking one practice test; same for the ACT.)

Don't let school run your life. I'm managing 5 APs and college apps, and still going out and having a great time every weekend. Hell, I'm having more fun than I did during summer break. All it takes is a little time management. If I wasn't such a procrastinator during the week (starting homework at 10), I'd get a full 8 hours every night.

Whoever told me that high school would be the best four years of my life definitely lied, but that doesn't mean it has to suck. You can only be a teenager once. Enjoy it.

^ depends on the person and the workload. some can afford to have fun friday and sat then just work all day sunday. but many of us will have to work 2 days of the weekend, like friday and sunday, or saturday and sunday, instead of 1. its just a fact of life. especialyl w hen sports and ECs are involved in the weekdays and theres no chance to do longterm hw.

Then I would say make the most of that one day/night.

In my case, I'm usually booked Friday nights for church Youth Group (I'm on the youth board), and Sunday is my work day, so Saturday is my main day for having fun. My friends usually plan out something to do/somewhere to go - or we just meet up somewhere and improvise.
