Tell us your distance learning story

COVID-19 greatly accelerated the trend of students learning primarily over the internet. Right now many professors are preparing to give instruction not in the familiar confines of a lecture hall, but over video conferencing and forums. We’re all discovering together how internet classrooms function.

In order to support each other, I’d like to collect stories from students about your experience with distance learning. Whether you are just starting this week or you have been taking classes online for years, we want to hear from you! Just write your story in a new thread anywhere on the forums and tag it with the “Distance Learning” tag.

In the next few weeks, we’ll highlight our favorite stories from students. We’re also putting together a nominal prize for the post that gets the most likes. (We’re looking into hosting regular contests in this vein, so this is an initial test.)

I know it’s crazy out there and some of the changes can be stressful. Let’s encourage each other! Share the funny, surprising, enlightening and instructive experiences you’ve had taking classes online. If you’ve been part of virtual classrooms in the past, what suggestions do you have for the rest of us? If you are just starting this month, what’s been the most surprising thing?

The lack of replies to this post after several weeks and over a thousand views suggests that distance learning is going over like a lead balloon.

It should also be unpinned.

@Groundwork2022 and @momofsenior1: I’ve unpinned the thread. I might come back to contests, but for now we’re focusing on the webinars and informational posts. Thanks for your feedback!
