@pmmywest
I think my essay was pretty disorganized,too. My essays were pretty good and insightful but I am pretty sure I made a lot of grammatical errors due to last minute writing. I can’t remember what I put on my list. Is there a way to see our turned in application?
Here’s the link: <a href=“TASS rejects 2014 - Summer Programs - College Confidential Forums”>TASS rejects 2014 - Summer Programs - College Confidential Forums;
Scroll down to Apollo11’s post.

Actually I remember that I put:
The Book Thief, The Last Messenger, Naruto(haha,my 1st essay was about this,too), A Long Way Gone, The Other Wes Moore, How to Kill a Mockingbird, Prince by Machiavelli(I can’t remember if I put this or not but I hope I did), A Tale of Two Cities, etc. I can’t remember the rest. For magazines, I put Times Upfront and New York Times newspaper …i don’t really read magazines, normally I just go on yahoo.com for news.

I really didn’t work on the book list at all… :(

If I submitted my application online, was I supposed to get some sort of email confirming that it went through? I’m worried because I have absolutely nothing from TASP in my inbox.

@fairyfantasy that list is fine. I had a couple YA fiction books which probably made me look dumb, but hey, I like reading them!

@engarde I got an automated email that time-stamped my application when I sent it in. Maybe check your spam? I wouldn’t worry about it though, as long as you saw after submitting your application a webpage that told you it was sent in.

Did everyone get that email? I definitely did not get one.

I don’t remember getting one, either.

Hmmm… I have submitted a contact request, let’s see what happens. Could you double-check @fairyfantasy, to ease my anxiety? :P

@engarde I searched for keyword"telluride" and “tasp” in my inbox and didn’t come up with anything. I am not that worried about it. I am, however, really queasy about the results. If I just rejected I will be disappointed, but if I do get into the finalist round I’ll be nervous about the interviews :o I’ve never had an interview before and I am not a very good orator. :(

The email came from “applyweb” and didn’t mention “telluride” or “tasp” at all. You could also go back to the application website and see if it says “sent successfully.”

@pmmywest Thanks! I found the time-stamped email and my submitted application.
My book list is so sad…T.T I didn’t write in Prince or A Long Way Gone or anything that might have seemed really attractive…

I am fairly happy with my essays, however, except for some grammatical errors.
I am very proud of my conclusion for the 1st essay:

[Kishimoto’s ability to write such a complex plot and integrate a blurred ethic in Naruto is one of the most striking reasons I love this manga series. Nothing is certain or black and white in this world or Naruto’s. No one should be able to pin someone down with a definite label. Human are like the color of sky, various, fickle, and beautiful. In all the darkness of one person, there surely is a speck of light somewhere residing deeply in the heart.]
Not sure if the last sentences are grammatically correct but they are pretty.

@fairyfantasy I do like that conclusion! Very nice similes

What other programs, if any, did you guys apply to, in case you don’t get into TASP?

@pmmywest I am actually supposed to be a science/math person, lol, so I applied to a lot of research internship programs such as TTU Clark Scholars, SIMR(Stanford), SSP(last-minute writing right now haha), and am going to apply to HSHSP, SAMS at CMU, and UTMB summer research program at my home state Texas. TASP is actually the only English/Humanities program I applied to, but I do enjoy discussing and debating with my friends about political and economical systems, and issues like prejudice.

To find the “application received” email, search “CORNTELL” in your box. It doesn’t have TASP in the email.

@fairyfantasy:

I like big books and I cannot lie.

@Apollo11 Oh, I am not using you as a bad example or anything. In fact, I think your book list is quite impressive and obviously way better than mine. Congratulations on becoming a finalist!

@fairyfantasy haha I’m sort of in the same position for you. I plan on studying business, so I feel like I should be applying to math/business camps. However, all the good math camps are ridiculously hard to get into, and there aren’t many business camps out there. I do love English and writing/reading, so I applied to this and a journalism camp. If none of these programs work out, I’ll just find something local to do.

^Have you applied to LEAD Business @ Wharton? It’s the best business summer program, IMO

@Apollo11 I was actually planning on applying to that program but I ended up not doing so, because 1. it seems to be aimed towards URMs, and 2. with no business experience or a particularly strong application, I didn’t think I would be a competitive applicant. Same reason I didn’t apply to TTU Clark Scholars (I was thinking about applying to research economics). Also, I don’t feel comfortable asking my economics teacher for a recommendation this year, since I’m going to be asking him for one next year for college.
