Keil meant that since it’s a FAQ, it should be submitted to the Ask A TASPer component of TA’s website.

The abbreviated version: sure. I personally would never analyze Twilight, but that’s because I’ve made a vow never to touch that series. But there are no intellectual criteria you have to meet to analyze a book or anything. Your analysis is much more important than what book you choose.

Also, to those of you who haven’t even started yet or are only barely started, KEEP GOING! I was in your shoes, and I’m so, so glad I submitted anyway. It’s worth it, I promise!

Long-term goals don’t exactly change, so I really don’t think it matters if the contents are similar. Do try to at least make an effort to write a better one, though.

Hi everyone, I started my third essay today and will hopefully finish it by tomorrow. These essay prompts are so intellectually stimulating; i actually enjoy writing and thinking about them. I can already see myself growing through this process and hope everyone has an awesome summer regardless of what results turn out to be. We will embark on this journey together and although some of us may fail, at least there was an effort.

I will post back when i submit my application.

I’mma write two tomorrow. I think. If only there was a way to stop procrastinating…

Hmm.

Essay #1 & #2 are hard for me cause I can’t decide what book/topic to pick.

And then there’s #4. I have no idea what I want to do with my life…so I guess I’ll just have to say that I can’t decide on anything…can’t see that coming of as good, haha :)

to enigm4tican0maly, I couldn’t have said it better. Shockingly enough, I’m actually enjoying the essays! I hadn’t even started before this weekend, but now that I have it’s almost like I can’t walk away. Which is why I’m up right now finishing #2, ahahaha :)

I can’t decide on a book–there’s so many I could do. I don’t know if I want to go the classics route or the modern lit or the children’s book route.

And then I don’t know what part I would analyze if I picked a book.

Maybe I should do a poem…

Lol. I have no idea. Indecisive for remaining three essays + procrastination= fail.

Ehhh, yeah, me too probably, I happen to be absolutely awful with deadlines as a general rule. Half the reason I’m applying is just to challenge myself to get it in on time. Ok, maybe not half, that’s a little much, but it’s definitely what’s motivating me right now!

Ha, me too! I figured this would be good training for college apps. I don’t really think I’m going to make it in, but I figured it’s worth something. Having to write 5 essays and put an application together for a deadline…that’s something I wouldn’t attempt normally :)

Hey, I was just wondering if any of you guys were going to title your essays. As of yet, mine are just headed by the prompts they gave us. I’m asking just to get a general idea of what others are gonna do.

Any input from veteran TASPers would also be much appreciated!

I have a feeling that the critical analysis is the most difficult essay for everyone… I’m about halfway through it now though, with crappy points and everything–but I think it’s better to have a finished essay that you can edit than a blank page. By the way, for those of you who still don’t know what text you want to do, I find that poetry and short stories are easier simply because there’s less content. Just sayin’.
