Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2010

I’m applying this year!

@Antagonist:
Ooooh thanks! Did Telluride give a reason for why they’re killing off one of the seminars?

Budget reasons; I believe UMich declined to fund half the seminar’s costs, as is customary.

The 2010 programs are up!
[Telluride Association: Our Programs: For High School Students: Summer Program for Juniors (TASP): 2010 Programs](http://www.tellurideassociation.org/programs/high_school_students/tasp/tasp_program_locations.html)

The Cornell I and UT Austin ones look great! This is so exciting.

Wow. I’m pretty pumped for TASP this year. I can’t wait to apply.

Good Luck to everyone.

I agree with the last two posts.

The Cornell I and UT Austin programs look awesome, but does anyone else think the Cornell II program is a little weak/random?

The Cornell II seminar appears more discipline-based than usual, specifically literature-based. Similarly, UT-Austin last year was an “experimental” seminar with field work and projects instead of long papers.

I’m going to apply as well. Just a quick few questions:

 1. Do we have to attend the seminars? What are they for? What are the benefits of attending them?
 2. What is asked of the applicant on the application? I know TASP disregards grades/test scores and asks to write essays but that’s it? Or is there more?

1) Uh, yes, you have to attend the seminars. They’re kind of the primary point.
2) You fill out a typical college application: short list of ECs, biographical information (including race/gender/languages spoken/birthplace/citizenship, for diversity purposes), GPA and class rank (maybe not this year, now that they’re only requesting finalist transcripts). But I believe the first round is 100% essays or close to it.

^I have a question about the seminars.

When are they? And do they occur? during the summer ?
Im so confused.
I thought the “primary point” is that if you get accepted, you go to Cornell or whatever other college there is and stay there for the program. But im probably mistaken. Can explain please?

Blink. Okay, back to basics: TASP is a 6-week summer program for rising seniors. It takes place at different college campuses across the nation. Some campuses (mainly Cornell) host more than one seminar, although both seminars’ participants live together in one house community.

If you are accepted to, say, the Cornell I TASP, you go to Cornell for six weeks and attend TASP, which is primarily structured around your seminar. The implications of TASP for college admissions as a senior is debatable, but neither you nor Cornell is making a commitment to any kind of enrollment at Cornell.

So we live at Cornell for 6 weeks?

Cornell or UT Austin.

^Yes. Cornell TASPers reside in the Telluride House at Cornell; UT-Austin TASPers reside in a sorority house (usually the same one, but we were REALLY messy, so maybe not).

I’m definitely applying!

To any previous TASPer:
How much free time do you get to explore, are you confined to what you can do. Is there any time you can spend just relaxing and hanging out, or is it more intense?

Wait…what?

The application may have changed this year. For 2009, IIRC you were given about 3 lines to elaborate on ECs? Memory is fuzzy, so other TASPers feel free to correct me. My interviewer definitely commented on my “bookishness” based on ECs.
