Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2012

I ended up expanding my argument since I hadn’t even hit 600 words and I was done. Finally finished at 948 and all it needs now is some editing. Still not 100% happy or even anywhere near that but I am glad to be finished. :)

xGlassChild - I love Explosions in the Sky! Their new album makes me feel fantastic!

now i feel a bit better XD

@redditor13: I’m in Cali too. It’s due at 11:59 EST, so for us it’d be 9pm PST.

As to word count: I feel like the odd one out, but my essays were fairly long - around ~1450 words each. Critnal was 1500 exactly. I’d say not to worry about it, since people have different writing styles. If you’ve said what you meant to say, word count shouldn’t matter.

Good luck to you all! Don’t give up - push for the final stretch!

Starting now… 3 hours? Bring it on!

About 3 paragraphs left on my critical analysis…Why is this so difficult?!

@KneeRidge your positivity amazes me. I would be ripping my hair out if I were you lol.
HALF AN ESSAY LEFT. I can do this.
And then study for finals. Ugh.

Okay. 4 ESSAYS LEFT. Leggooo

We can do this, guys!

I’m about to press submit and go to bed! Good luck everyone, especially @KneeRidge! Get typing and let us know how you get on! :)

Progress:
3 left:
1 @ 61 words. (ouch)
1 @ 423
1 @ 152

UGH

What are y’all writing about?

@sugardonka,

I wrote my literary analysis on Atonement and it’s portrayal of human selfishness. My “topic” of choice was a spiel about the difference between education and learning. My conflict one was about an internal conflict that was actually really small, but i hope i presented it well. And my future plans one was… quite abstract. i hope it works. what about you guys?

:)

three essays to goooo. gonna die / kill myself.

Future essay: Wrote about how my extra curriculars and my mentor inspired me to want to pursue a career in science.

Analysis: Picked an essay I found about regret; I argued how we need regret… Lol sounds weird, but I think it worked out alright

Conflict: This was tough, and I’m still working on this one, but it’s about how I aim to be perfect.

Course essay: This is the one that’s only 61 words so far, but I plan on writing about how I like how the class combines gov’t with science (the origin of the species).

the topic one: I’m writing about how teachers are under appreciated, but they’re actually really important and i’m going into detail about how they’re important.

Five… more… sentences… and I have SAT chem to study for after this. Goodness.

I’m writing my critical analysis on a Flobots rap; “there’s a war going on for your mind.”
…Hope they don’t think it’s too weird.

For the “discuss a specific problem” one, I wrote a heart-wrenching essay on why the rent was too damn high, but somehow my teacher didn’t go for it. So, writing about the Foxconn almost suicide.

For conflict, I wrote one about facebook addiction, but do you think that’s too un-serious or something? :/

Critical - One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and it’s portrayal of women. I love this essay. It’s so close to the limit though (1402) that I hope it’s not too long.

Interest - Working on it right now, it’s kind of about stem cell research and how I feel about it versus how my religion does. It connects to my life, so I hope it turns out.

Courses - I don’t know; haven’t started. I know the order of courses, and I know I don’t want to do Michigan II. I love the concept of the Origin of Species course!

Conflict - I need to finish this, but it’s about my experiences with having cancer twice, having a bone marrow transplant, and how it’s helped me.

Future - How cancer has put me on the path to want to pursue cancer epidemiology.

I’m nervous about getting it all done, but I like where I’m going, and I feel my essays have a common theme that really emphasizes what makes me, me.

Only my second post here…

I have to say I’m thoroughly surprised/impressed with the level of procrastination of the posters here, for two reasons: 1) because I normally would have done the same thing but somehow submitted my application two days ago, and 2) because all of you probably still have a better shot then I do of getting in. xD

Also, just my two cents about essay length: only one of my essays was over 1,000 words, and it was my future plans essay. I feel like I finished with much better pieces of writing because I didn’t focus too much on the word count. =]

Arg, the critical analysis is killing me xD
I wrote mine about a musical, don;t think it was a good idea

only got 800 words meh

Funny thing is, I was going to start these essays over the summer…
