Telluride Association Summer Program (TASP) 2013

^^^Which means that you can keep working until 11:59 pm (monday night); so yes you can work through Monday as long as you turn them in by Monday night

HAHAHAHAHA oh my god I haven’t even started any of my essays
am I screwed or what

^Lololololol work quick lol!!! a lot of the taspers last year apparently worked till the last minute.

T minus- 23 hours and 25 minutes.

Hello TASPers,
My hopes and dreams essay is only 700 words… Is that way too short to send in?

@meowmix13: mine is at 750 but it gets the message across. I dont think it matters as long as you get everything you want to say in the essay

ohmygosh it’s so soon!! good luck everyone!!

I have quotes and statistics in my “conflict in a topic of interest essay.” Do I need to compose citations and include them at the bottom of the essay?

arghhh I’m so stressed. I’m still working on my topic of interest paper, and I have two left. I’m not sure I can make the 1,500 mark for all of them, or even get close. But I feel pretty confident about my critical analysis and my interest one is going well so far. Procrastination ughhh

i agree to do we have to cite stuff! i dont have statistics but i have a definition. Imagine something like. An apple is a red fruit. Would I have to say according to dictionary.com, an apple is a red fruit. and at the bottom cite dictionary.com…id really rather not…

You obviously do not have to cite such diminutive definitions like the definition of the apple or something similar with a well known definition. However, I included actual quotes from individuals and statistics from different Bureaus…so im just gunna be safe and cite them.

Note to everyone: length doesn’t really matter. You don’t have to write 1,500 words. Just write enough to get your point across.

on the other hand i have about 360 words on my app in total so whooooooooo watch me crash and burn

For the discuss a specific problem prompt, should pronouns such as “I” be avoided? I’m not really sure because the prompt said not to sound like a research paper…

@winslow: Don’t worry, I only wrote one essay so far :P

I guys um so tasp essays are due tomorrow. I found out about tasp literally five days ago and I’m writing the second promp: Discuss a specific problem or topic in a field that interests you. You may address political, philosophical, social, literary, aesthetic, or other questions. Your essay should represent your own views and thoughts; it should not be a research paper. I’m not sure what it means to say write an essay but not make it research paper. HELP PLEASE.

@nvonwilcz: this was already answered…but here
“The lines drawn when you express your opinion/viewpoints concerning the topic of interest. A typical research paper is free of a biased opinion; basically, unlike the TASP topic of interest paper, you’d stray from using first person pronouns”
^^^my problem with this is that they claim that using first person pronouns is ok…which i think is fine too but make sure not to litter your essay with them. For my essay, i expressed my view completely, made sure it sounded passionate, included a couple statistics and quotes to back up my arguement/provide background info and just went with it.

Just submitted my app!!!

Thoughts on writing two essays on the same topic (critical analysis & specific problem)?

@FlyingOptimist, I don’t really see how that could work, like are you writing the specific problem about the text? But if it’s a problem that’s addressed in the text that’s something you’re really interested in and passionate about I think that it could work. Although I’m not exactly the expert on this :/

How are you guys doing on essay length? One of mine is like 1100 words, but then another is only 750. i feel like i’ve gotten my point across in each though, so does length really matter?

Length does not matter as long as you get your point across. You dont want to stuff your essay just to make it longer because then they will be able to tell that it is just fluff.
I just submitted mine and …Essay 1: 1300 words Essay 2: 1200 words Essay 3: 800 words Essay 4: 1200 words
