Temple 2024

@sportsmom79 … you laughed because there is truth to it… lol…we applied for EA so we are suppose to hear no matter what by 1/10… applied to Nursing but if she gets into the School of Public Health she’d be thrilled …

@nglaw1836 and @sportsmom79 What is funny is that my D is ashamed of her GPA … all about perspective as she hangs with a crazy-high achieving crowd.

Temple’s overall stats show that they admit a full range of students in terms of test scores and GPAs. You don’t get an average ACT score of 27 when you only admit kids with over 31 right?

Hit the send button too fast …

Don’t be concerned … perhaps they do higher stat applicants first, I don’t know.

But from last year’s thread there were a lot of accepted kids who also received merit scholarships with “normal” grades and test scores. (like a 3.5gpa and 27/1300)
And those students go on to successful academic and professional careers.

D was just waitlisted with a 4.0 UW GPA for nursing. She is a 2 sport varsity athlete and has a ton of ec’s including hospital volunteer hours; however, she applied Temple Option. Needless to say she will not be waiting until April with those stats to see what Temple’s decision is. She has already been accepted to Pitt, West Chester, Messiah, and York. Not sure how Temple makes their decisions as the minimum gpa for the nursing program is a 3.25.

@ejg1759 when I was at a Temple open house with my son two years ago they mentioned the nursing acceptance rate is about 8%. They only take something like 80 students each year if I recall correctly. My stats are probably off a bit, but they made a big point about mentioning nursing as being significantly harder to get into than any of their other programs. Sorry to hear she was waitlisted, but know she is far from alone. Congrats to her on all of her other acceptances.

@nglaw1836 It is the truth, for sure. Good luck to your daughter!

@nglaw1836 Unless things have changed drastically within the past few years, I think your daughter has a good chance of being accepted to Public Health if not Nursing. My daughter’s friend (high school class of 2017) was denied for Nursing but accepted to Public Health at Temple with an SAT of 1100 and weighted GPA of 89. But if your daughter really wants a nursing career, perhaps another less competitive (for nursing) school would be a better choice. The girl I mentioned chose East Stroudsburg and started her nursing clinicals this year.

My son applied to the Boyer School of Music and Dance Music Technology program. In addition to the application (he used the Common app), he had to submit (via Acceptd) a portfolio of his original music (2 pieces), a music resume, 1-2 pages of his musical goals and a 1-3 minute video for each submitted piece of music detailing his creative process. Once that was submitted, someone from the School of Music emailed him an online music theory exam. They said he needed to pass at a certain proficiency for his portfolio to even be reviewed. The head of the dept. emailed him after he completed the exam and said that he did indeed meet the proficiency and that now his portfolio will be reviewed by several people in the department. Wow…so many steps! Of course, he needs to meet the regular admissions criteria, as well. His stats are OSS, 29 ACT/3.94 weighted GPA. Many honors courses and 5 AP courses. National Honor Society. Applied 10/27, but didn’t complete the online theory exam until 11/18. Lots of music extra-curriculars, piano and trumpet for many years, jazz and concert bands, AP music theory this year and VERY involved with a local theatre group with leadership. Met with the admissions liaison at Boyer on 10/13 and he attended the Music Technology day in November. Head of dept. on Music Tech day said they have 16 spots, but admissions liason had told us 24 (when we spoke to him on Oct.) out of usually 300 applicants. Of course, they make more offers than that to obtain their yield, but didn’t give that number. So, we’ve been waiting and refreshing the portal OFTEN! His scenario doesn’t seem like the typical, but it’s been helpful to follow along on this thread as we wait. He really likes the program at Temple and would love to be in Philly. Some merit would help since we are out of state. Thanks for reading his rambling story!

Admitted! Computer Science 1090 SAT Unweighted gpa: 3.51/4 Weighted gpa: 4.4/5

@nglaw1836 I was admitted to temple about two weeks ago with a sat score of 1280 and UW 3.7 W 3.9. I was accepted as a psychology major

.

Congrats!! can you tell me when you applied?

@jdjdjeidixb I submitted my common application on 10/27 and accepted yesterday.

@sportsmom79 do not worry! I had average stats mostly (low SAT of 1150…) and basic extracurriculars and I got in :D. It’s a fairly easy school to get into, Temple doesn’t expect you to be exceptional. I’m sure your son will get in!

Also @nglaw1836 same to you, don’t worry I’m sure your kids will get in. Temple isn’t that competitive.

@nglaw1836 i was accepted w/ a 3.2 unweighted which i think is pretty average … i was a mostly b and c student and still got a pretty good merit scholarship! i wouldn’t worry about it

Son’s application was complete as of Oct. 22 when scores were sent. Applied to Sport and Rec. No decision yet. Anyone hear from this school yet? It’s his first choice.

@historyfreakmida I wonder if after they filter through the highest stat students if they then go by major? There seems to be no rhyme or reason with how the decisions are sent out.

i was accepted today

@jadeashlee Congrats! Do you mind sharing your stats, major and when you applied?

Well my son got his update and he’s “on hold”. It doesn’t say a timeframe nor additional steps. So what does that mean?!?! What can we do???
