Temple 2024

@Scaryspice123 It’ll show up on your admissions letter. Your portal will update with the letter after about 3 days of getting the initial acceptance.

@izrk02 my portal says i was invited to the “honors reception” do you know what that means?

@Scaryspice123 I’m guessing it means you were admitted into honors. Congrats! Wait until your letter shows up for confirmation.

izrk02 - so - my daughter got accepted about 2 months ago via EA & nothing listed on the aid portal. So likely no merit aid? Ugh. She has a 4.3 wgpa & 1330 SAT plus is a legacy. Was hoping for at least a little something!

Does Temple negotiate merit aid?

PS obviously some great stats here from admitted kids!

@“Jolynne Smyth” , I would be surprised if no merit with those stats.

Thanks, OceanIsle. We keep checking the portal under financial aid tab and zip! Too bad because D really liked it and with a few thousand it could be a good option for her… She’ll probably give them a call Monday (if I can encourage that to occur!)

I wonder if it’s always better for the kid to call about the fin aid? Or is it okay for the parent? We’re paying for it, after all (but I know kid has to be invested, etc. etc.)

You’re not going to see anything under the financial aid portal to Feb. March. If there is merit, it will be in the acceptance letter on the portal. Otherwise, there is not. Need based aid, if any will be released later.

@“Jolynne Smyth” whst is the unweighted gpa

@“Jolynne Smyth” , as someone else mentioned, the Financial Aid portal will not (yet?) list any scholarships. Merit awards will be listed in the student’s official acceptance letter which can be found on the admissions portal. Keep us posted!

Hi - thanks for that info! Oh boy, no merit in the acceptance letter so it looks like there isn’t any. Her unweighted gpa is 3.6 so not out of the park, but we were hoping for at least something. Kids w/same general stats seemed to get a bit.

Not expecting any need based $ but maybe on the outside, outside chance.

Thanks again!

Bummer, good luck!

@“Jolynne Smyth” Its likely her SAT. While not low (its really good!), I had a similar W and UW gpa but a higher SAT score and got good merit. Just so its not confusing, legacy also plays a pretty small roll in aid and admissions since Temple is public. Really sucks for your D, hopefully you’ll get some need-based.

@“Jolynne Smyth” I am a junior parent lurking on this thread as my son really wants to go to Temple. I have noticed almost everyone who has posted that they received merit is OOS. We are Instate like you (and legacy). I am wondering if Temple is offering more merit to OOS applicants to attract them and defray the OOS price. My high stats daughter (3/550 class rank, 1520 SAT) received the presidential scholarship 3 years ago. (Instate). I am hoping my son gets a little something (3.7uw GPA and 1380 SAT). He really doesn’t want to retake the SAT, but I will try to convince him to if he might get even a little merit with 10 or 20 more points… Good luck! Keep us posted! I am rooting for you!!

For reference, this year DD20 (also legacy, though I don’t think they consider this), received 8K/year merit, in-state. She has a 4.0 UW GPA and 1460 SAT, all APs and Honors classes, ranked 2/410.

@momandslp , Congratulations to your daughter! FWIW, Temple has changed their merit decisions and scaled back a lot after going into a deficit for over-awarding. What kids got three years ago, same-stat kids are unfortunately no longer seeing.

I do believe your son will get something and am surprised the above poster was not awarded anything. My son received $2k per year merit this year with a similar GPA as your son and a lower SAT. We are in-state.

@OceanIsle and @samsmom20 Thanks for the info about instate merit. My daughter got in the year after Temple changed their merit system. She really loved Temple when she visited and she has many friends there (maybe the same high school @OceanIsle’s son with 100 applicants to TU every year), but she wanted to go OOS for college (she ended up in New Orleans!). My son only seems to like Temple and wants to be close to home, which I think is a good idea for him. He goes to a “rigorous” private school with no honors classes or APs (they offer 3 advanced science classes and that’s about it). The college search process has been so different for him. Thanks again. Go Owls!

Thanks all for the encouragement! We are actually OOS for Temple. We are in NJ and not far from downtown Philly, but looking at that hefty OOS ticket price. If we were PA it would probably be D’s number 1. I like that it’s close and there is an enthusiastic alumni network on the east coast.

I know they really scaled back the merit aid after years of guaranteeing certain $$ to kids with certain test scores/gpa.

I’m also a former employee (temporarily, during grad school) so thought that might be a little helpful. Apparently not! Guess we’ll see how it all plays out! Good luck to all!

JUST GOT ACCEPTED TO TEMPLE TODAY!!!
I’m so excited!! It’s my number one school!
For those wondering, I had a 27 ACT and a 3.9 weighted GPA.
