Temple Admissions Class of 2021

@ally22 30 ACT weighted GPA 4.2

Accepted this morning! No honors info on the portal, but I wasn’t really expecting it anyway. I applied EA with a 3.52 but after my first semester I had a 3.78 (sent later) and a 1380 SAT (760 CR, 620 M). Also 770 lit SAT but I’m not sure that was factored in because they received the score very late. I would have loved honors, but Temple is by far still my top choice. Just waiting for aid now, haha

Looks like people that applied after me are already being accepted. I applied EA with a 4.0 GPA and a 1470 on the SATs, and this was back around October 23rd. Might the reason why I haven’t heard back yet be related to the major I selected? I applied for nursing, and I know that it’s a very selective program.

I’ve been checking every day excitedly, hoping to hear back from the school of my dreams. I guess if I get accepted it will just be that more satisfying the longer I wait.

@phiraeth I would bet that nursing admissions are handled differently, and I would also bet that you will get in.

@nhenry123 did you apply EA or rolling? They’re doing all Early Action applicants first.

I spoke with admissions earlier today and they told me that they’ll be giving out merit scholarship information in the official acceptance letter which will be available on the portal sometime next week

@pennst2021 I applied EA so I don’t understand why I didn’t get a response yet. I assume it’ll come in the next few days but i dont know

Got in but reeeaaallllyyyy want to see the merit aid, post when you hear!

@pennst2021 That is awesome information and the most concrete release date anyone has heard yet, thanks for posting!!! @lorhop

This is my first child off to college, so pardon what is probably a simple question: when you hear about merit aid, is that different than financial aid? Wouldn’t they have to give you an idea of both at the same time? Does one typically give you more?

@BettyQ Merit is based on GPA/scores so can be given earlier by a school- sometimes as early as with the admission letter. Each school has a different amount to give,(private schools with large endowments are known to be more generous) it is usually called a scholarship and info can be found on each school’s website. Financial aid is based on need and is given later due to the financial aid deadlines also being later.

Thank you, I try to do those net price calculators and I have found the private schools to be more generous based off those and what College Boards says. Temple says it meets 70%of a student’s needs, but 55% of that is loans and only 45% is grants. So, I guess I am just curious if you end up getting more in merit in the end.

@shelleyr25 no problem! Also, kind of weird to see that your daughter and I have the exact same stats! 30 ACT and 4.2 GPA. Hope we both get in to the honors program!

I just called the Honors Office at Temple to see if I could get any further information on when official notification would go out on the Honors College Acceptances and I was advised that a large stack of 500 letters was just sent out on 12/6 & 12/7 to those who are being offered a spot in The Honors College so to check your mail over the
next couple days. Good Luck Everyone - Fingers are Crossed !

The letters did go out as my daughter just got her letter from Temple Honors Program this afternoon - she is IN !
She is so excited and can’t wait for Experience Temple Day & The Honors Reception. We are very proud of her

Congrats to your D @lorhop !!!

Thanks @shelleyr25

Other than merit aid and federal or state grants, work study and student loans, you cannot expect much in need based aid from a public university, especially as an OOS student.

Today I received an email about an official acceptance letter on my portal.

In the letter I was named a President’s Scholar and received a full-tuition merit scholarship!

34 ACT, 4.28 weighted, top 7%, and contact with a TU coach.

@SonOfAbraham Wow - Congrats ! That is amazing news. My daughter got the letter in the mail today that she was accepted into the Honors Program so very happy for that - now just waiting on merit scholarship info so glad to hear they have started sending them out. Great Job - Congrats !
