Hi, I am an international student from Vietnam. I have been accepted via TUportal today. Does any one know how they send the information of scholarships to international students??
@mpthuytien Hi, I’m an international student too, my friend who is studying at Temple told me that the acceptance package with scholarship information will be mailed to you. Only that can we really know whether we have been offered any package yet. How’s your stat?
I just got accepted! Very excited
Does anyone know how long it takes for the letter to reach internationals? I’m from India!
@Quanh261997 thanks for the information
My stat: 1300/2030 SAT, 9.4/10 cumulative GPA, some decent ECs, good essay. Basically I will need to pay 19000 $ per year if I attend Temple. I love Fox School and am aware that it has great business department, yet 19000/year seems not so ideal for me. Are you studying at Temple? If it’s ok, may I inbox to ask you some questions? Thanks in advance :x
I am an international student, and I applied 11/16, and today I got an email saying I was admitted. So when do I get information about the scholarships? And would I get that info via email before mail?
And do we have to submit FAFSA to get an academic scholarship?
My application was completed on Oct. 12 but I did not apply Early Action (although looking back I should have). My SAT is a 2150, weighted gpa is a 3.82, and I have pretty good ECs. I have yet to be accepted although I feel like I am more than qualified. My TU portal home page says “1 thing you need to do” but it also says “your application is complete and awaiting a decision.” Is there an error in the system or have i just not been accepted?
I have had that same notification until today. It just got updated to congratulations! You have been accepted
thewizard, there is probably some minor hitch with yours that is holding it up. that happened with my kid too. I emailed, included his SAT score, and asked what was up. Admissions told me what was “missing” but then he got accepted about 2 days letter, before we sent anything else in to his app.
so email admissions and see what is up. Def mention your CR and math total in your email. I think I said my kid has 1450 CR/M score or something along those lines, he was very interested in Temple, what they Temple still need, and anything he or I could do to help with the process.
Do they mail the scholarship packages right after they send the acceptance notification? I live in PA, so I expect to get it pretty quickly…
@jnkam24 I just got my letter today! I applied on 10/23 and got my acceptance on the portal on 11/22.
@thewizard10 My portal said that all the way up until I got my acceptance. The “complete and awaiting a decision” box doesn’t get checked off until an admission decision is made, so it’s always going to say you have one thing you need to do even though you’ve completed everything.
@brooke513 do you live close or far away from temple?
@mpthuytien
How did you calculate that the exact amount needed for your study at Temple is 19000$? Did you get the scholarship results? If my memory serves me right Fox tuition is about approx 32000 not including the living expenses so you should be getting the Presidential scholarship if you want to pay that much at Fox
The big envelope finally made it’s way across the country and across the Pacific. Woohoo! D got the Presidential Scholarship. 4.0uw, 32 ACT, accepted for Mechanical Engineering. She applied via the common app on October 31.
So, for everyone who has been to Temple, that big safety question… Do you feel safe? Do you have to significantly change your regular behavior to feel safe? Do people look out for each other if things get sketchy?
Temple looks awesome. D is ready to try the east coast after growing-up in Hawaii, but she has never lived in a big city. Hopefully, we can visit in February.
@palm715 Congrats. Is your D going to study at Temple? Or does she have eye on other school ? Congrats anyway :D. Still waiting mine
@palm715 We have been up to Temple about 8 times now- never felt unsafe at all on campus. We have taken subway from campus all over Philly, never felt unsafe doing that… Some of the routes driving to campus look sketchy to say the least esp north and west… that said my son has lots of friends who go to Temple and all have told him they have never had a problem.
They say just be smart walking off campus, don’t wear earphones, don’t have your phone out looking at it as you walk, if someone stops you to ask the time keep walking- don’t take your phone out to check the time for them, walk with others when possible… I believe the school gives the kids a safety orientation so they quickly learn street smarts. There are many neighborhoods and they change quickly so before she attends Temple it would be helpful to study the map of neighborhoods in Philly to get a feel. There is a safety map https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=zVuLVX-55AtU.kAQoLpXFO6Q8&hl=en that gives you a debatable idea of safe neighborhoods. That said Philly is a gritty city that is slowly gentrifying (much to the residents dismay), so one needs to appreciate the city vibe to feel safe so to speak. My son takes the train into Philly with his friends for concerts all the time, the music scene is thriving- there are so many concert venues all over the city. They usually take uber to get around at night.
Son has a female friend who is graduating from engineering and she currently lives off campus on Diamond street (in the less safe part near campus) she said most of the robberies happen late at night to kids that are drunk… she loves Temple and the area and is planning on staying in Philly after graduation.
@palm715 – I agree completely with @runswimyoga. My D1 is there now, living off campus and has never felt unsafe. She takes advantage of the escort service (security walks with you to your destination) and the OwlLoop - door to door shuttle - at night if she is going to or from her apartment. I hope you do get to visit. Philadelphia is a great city and Temple is an awesome school. Congrats to your daughter!! My D2 is also a President’s Scholar and she is majoring in electrical engineering. I am hoping that she picks Temple!
@runswimyoga & @PhilaSkiMom thanks for the personal stories. I think my D would adapt, and the safety concerns are mostly projecting my own attitude towards big city living, not hers. The acceptance packet was exceptional. I think she is starting to see how amazing Temple could be for her.
@Quanh261997 ha ha, I wish I knew. She has applied to A LOT of colleges, so she will be waiting until she hears from all of them before making the final choice. I wish you lots of luck and hope you enjoy your college experience!
i agree with posters above on safety. mom of a sophomore speaking
