Does anyone know how these interviews work and how many they normally select for the program?

There are about 40-50 interviewed. Last year 12 acceptances were offered.

Does this program only gurantee interview, but not a spot in medical school?

It seems like a spot is given if the student meets certain requirements for GPA, MCAT etc and also fast tracked to 7 years at some point.

Any idea on the format of the interview?

No idea on the interview format. I am curious about that too.

How does this program differ from other typical 7 year programs where just GPA, MCAT will get you in? Others don’t require you to interview with the medical school after the ug, but this one does. The need for interview may make you continue medically related ECs during ug, while other programs don’t need it as a requirement.

I guess that means it is not exactly guaranteed. Others do have an interview upfront directly with the medical schools. I wonder who they are interviewing with now if not the medical school.

Oh interview was kind of weird. Everyone is split up into groups and sent to different small group rooms for an activity mediated by current temple health scholars students. They gave some sort of scenario which prompted an ethical dilemma; we had to read about it and write on the topic in the short time that they provided. They then asked each group member about their response and then I think the group was to reach some conclusion. Meanwhile the current temple students were taking notes throughout the whole thing and asking questions for clarification. I don’t remember there being a faculty interview, just the group activity. Yeah, it was pretty unusual but kind of fun. I forget the exact scenario but I remember it being related to whether or not to end the life of someone who asked to have their life ended bearing in mind that the patient was set to die of a painful terminal illness in a few months.

@dblazer thanks.
Is there a faculty member in the room during the interview?

Thanks dblazer. It sounds like a multiple mini interview? Which year did you interview?

Any idea on why they still need to do an interview with med school? Are there any people turned down at the time of med school admission?

@retro, I don’t recall there being one.

@texaspg, this was last year. It was kind of like a ‘mini-interview’ but more focused on the ethical dilemma that they presented.

Based on the program coordinator’s description, it is not as much of a guaranteed admissions program as others where you’re good as long as you meet some minimum requirements. They expect that you do traditional pre-med activities, etc. and there still is a med school interview but I guess it will be known if the student is in the program so my guess is that it’s less serious.

Thanks dblazer. Are you in a combined program somewhere? Did you make the cut for this one?

“There are about 40-50 interviewed. Last year 12 acceptances were offered.” Is this about right for last year?

I’m in a combined program elsewhere but I was able to make the cut for this one. The 40-50 number seems right but I can only guess how many were offered acceptances. A coordinator did suggest that there was no specific number of individuals they were trying to accept so I’m guessing it’s somewhat flexible.

Any1 get into this program?
