Temple or Pitt for pre-med?

first off sorry that i'm saying pre-med, i know it's not a major but i needed to label it somehow. i'm interested in becoming a doctor, specifically a dermatologist which i know is tough to match into for residency. I have other schools picked out but Pitt and Temple are my top choices (Pitt being number 1 and Temple being number 2 but this is based on them looking good on paper) i plan on visiting both colleges but which do you think i should look at more seriously? i like pitt because i've read that pitt is good but i want to major in neuroscience and minor in biochemistry. Pitt doesn't have biochemistry as an option but temple does.
Would it be worth to go to temple just to be able to minor (and or major) in biochemistry over pitt?
also if you recommend pitt, any ideas in what i should minor in?
last question, anyone who's majored in neuroscience, how was it?

also, sorry i don't have my stats (acts, sats, gpa.) it's late. haha. thank you.

both are excellent schools for undergrad and med school.

I would choose pitt, because philly is gross, dirty nasty, dangerous city.
everything else they are equal.

Visit them both and see which you’d prefer. Pitt is well-known for neuro. One doesn’t hear of it often with Temple. Actually, this is the first I’ve heard of it with Temple, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t worth going there for it.

Zobroward,

Wow, you’re going to get some Philly people mad at you for those comments!

What makes you think that Philly is so bad? Lots of people think it’s a great town. It isn’t any worse in terms of problems than any large city. Any town can be criticized for something - too small, too rural, too boring, too busy, too much crime, too crowded, etc. Your comments were unnecessary.

Pitt, it’s not even that close. Especially for Neuroscience.

Regarding Pitt and Biochemistry, the Department of Chemistry actually offers the Biochemistry option as a combination of Biology and Chemistry. So you could dual major (or choose between single majors) in Neuroscience and “Bioscience Chemistry” aka biochemistry.

Faculty involved in Biochemistry in the Biology Department are listed here and you can get involved in their research if you are proactive interested in it.

“I would choose pitt, because philly is gross, dirty nasty, dangerous city.
everything else they are equal.”

While generalizing Philly like this is incorrect, I will admit that the section that Temple is located in just felt unclean when I visted. Perhaps because I currently live in an extremely rural area. But still, Pitt’s campus, although in the city, seems “pretty” in a sense, and the buildings, like the Cathedral, add some character to the campus. Temple, just seems like a bunch of old buildings plopped in the city. Nothing really notable.

As for academics, the above users are right. Pitt is well noted for its neuroscience department. Temple is not. So no, they are not “equal” for “everything else.”

Med School admission is heavily numbers-based, so if you believe that you will be happier at Temple and that you will get better grades there, it would be perfectly OK to choose Temple over Pitt.

Apply to both in time to qualify for any scholarships or other goodies (priority housing, etc.) they have on offer. Visit both. Decide when/if both accept you and you have had a chance to compare the financial aid packages.
