I was accepted into Temple's honors program and Rutgers University-New Brunswick, Rutgers College. I intend to major in some liberal art, probably something similar to English. I like Temple's location, but I think Rutgers has stronger accademics--would the honors things offset it? or does it really not matter either way?

I would go to Rutgers.

That's what I'm thinking

Theyre totally equal. My dad is a Temple Alum. When he went there it was a better school then it has been. Recently, it's been getting MUCH better. Their honors program is especially great.

Could you describe the honors program and what it offers, and the perks? I don't know anything about it. Also, what does it take to be accepted into it?
Thanks.

Temple is a diamond in the rough. While it is obscured by other local publics such as Penn State, Rugers, and UDelaware, there are some very good programs.

What do you plan on majoring in? Is money an issue?

I'm going to major in either English or something along those lines. Money's not an issue, they offered me 5k a year/4k for rutgers. my parents will pay the tuition of either, so it's really what ever i like best. i'm visiting both next week. i'd rather go to temple because of its location and the honors program, but i think rutgers may have better accademics.

Rutgers is much better. More like a real college atmosphere.

Take it from someone in Washington to know about Temple
Calling Temple a 'fake' college atmosphere is appalling and offending.

Somebody who spent 20 years in NJ about 40 miles from RU and Temple. And my brother went to RU. Temple is basically a city commuter school with a bad bad football team. RU is not the nicest campus in the world but it is a real campus in a college town. RU is very good in English (#18). RU is #60 overall while Temple is third tier.

What is Temple's honors program like? What are the Perks?
BTW, Rutgers is a better school and really enjoys recognition nationally. Hope you don't mind waiting for buses if you attend!

Thats great and all, but having a lackluster football team has no merit as to whether or not it is a good school. Rutgers isnt exactly a bowl-game hot spot. Temple isnt a real campus, fine. So is Penn? Drexel? It's similar to BUs. It isnt the prettiest thing, but its a campus. Rutgers isnt a bad school, but it isnt exactly like comparing Temple to Penn. Temple gets a bad rap from USNews. It is in no way a third tier school. Thats total ********.

Part of having an enjoyable life at a large school is having some school spirit. IMHO RU has more than Temple.

Rutgers. It is a major research university, a member of the Association of American Universities, http://www.aau.edu/. Parts of the campus, especially the Old Queens portion, are very pretty. One of the original colonial universities. A member of the Big East. A bus or train ride away from NYC.

I would go with Rutgers. From what I hear, Temple is located in a horrible section of Philly, so you might not be comfortable with that. Rutgers is also a step or two above Temple in terms of presige+academics, and if you're a NJ resident, Rutgers would be MUCH cheaper for you than Temple would. The fact that you got into Temple Honors makes it a bit more appealing, but I'd still go with Rutgers.

Believe me, people at Temple have PLENTY of school spirit.

Not really. There are much worse parts. Theres no apprehension about walking around there and what not. It takes sheltered idiots to be turned off by Temple's location.

I'm more concerned with accademics and grad school opportunities, but I'm probably go with Rutgers.

Dont let others negative opinions on a truly underrated school affect you. Go check out Temple if you havent already.

Rutgers is probably the better choice, but still give Temple a look. Just in case.
