I'm a sophomore at a Penn State Branch campus who has been commuting the last 2 years. I know I want to do Advertising. I applied to Advertising (in college of communications, main campus) and didn't get accepted because I didn't reach certain class requirements. I got accepted into Telecommunications which is also in the college of communications. I LOVE penn state; i've been wanting to go there for a long time now. But if i can't do Advertising I don't know if it's worth going there. I'm not really a city person and Temple University is in the city of Philly. Temple has a good advertising program, but i don't know if i'll be happy there.. changes i won't. ANY OPINIONS or feedback would be awesome. thank you.

..also would telecommunications even be a good degree? I was thinking about double majoring in Graphic Design and Advertising.. which would now be telecommunications instead. I don't want to major in something that everyone looks down on.. and thinks i'm an idiot for.

Tough choice. If you’re not a city person, Temple is about as city as it gets. Have you looked into any the PASSHE institutions to see if they have advertising majors you might be able to move into? West Chester, Indiana, Bloomsburg, Kutztown, etc.?

yes i have. and no to all the ones you listed… unfortunately. what would you do? because I am going back and forth. the minute i have my mind set, i change it. thanks for responding!

I think I’d look hard at the BS in Marketing at West Chester University. It’s in a lovely little town, but it’s close enough to Philadelphia that you’ll have opportunities to get internships in advertising. It will also put you closer to the east coast and therefore easier access to NYC - maybe a 15 minute drive to Exton, hop on the R5 to 30th Street, Amtrak to NY in 1.5 hrs. I think the marketing major will be close enough to what you’re looking for. The price should be about right, and I’m guessing most of your credit will transfer without too much trouble.
