Anyone applied or visited these schools for MT? I saw old threads on Temple but nothing current and nothing really on Indiana Univ of PA…just wanting some insight or current experiences, etc. Any PA people familiar with these 2?
My D applied to both programs a couple of years ago. We did IUP’s open house and spent the night out there. From what I remember, you had to be admitted to both the theatre department and music department. She didn’t audition because she had been accepted to her number one before the audition date. I thought the school was really nice and the music department was impressive. I can’t remember much about the theatre department. D didn’t like the remoteness of it though.
D was accepted to Temple’s Theatre major/MT concentration. We saw one show there (and even though people say you can’t base a program on a show, we didn’t really care for the production). The audition went well and they seemed very enthused to have her there. D still liked the program. I like all of what Temple has to offer (fantastic music and dance programs - not sure how much the MTs take class with those majors though).
Thanks @exitstageleft we may look into both so need some input . D has been in touch with IUP but not Temple. I heard the Temple area isn’t great but who knows without visiting I guess. Yes my hubby has been where IUP is and said its rather remote. I know music majors from IUP & they were quite pleased. Did you go to other PA programs also?
D applied to West Chester and Muhlenberg. We saw a show at WCU and did their theatre open house (Star Day or something like that). We both thought the show was ok. She was accepted there (no audition). She really liked Muhlenberg. She auditioned for the scholarship and was awarded it. We didn’t see a performance during the school year, but she sat in on an acting class and enjoyed it.
She started the UArts application process but didn’t audition because she heard from her number one. We both loved UArts and know several graduates.
IUP and Temple are night and day. Rural vs. inner city. Small vs. large. Not so diverse vs. very diverse. They will definitely offer different experiences. Best of luck to you!
Yup, Temple is right in the center of an area of Philadelphia that has a high crime rate (as are several top colleges in the country), but it attracts and enrolls all walks of life every year. Doesn’t seem to hinder their admissions much.
