My top three choices right now are Rutgers University,Temple University, and Drexel University
I can’t seem to makeup my mind!
I did not get in to Rutger’s Business School but I got into the school of Arts and Sciences,but I was thinking if I do end up going I could transfer to the Business School.
I got into Temple University’s Fox School of Business but i hear the area is bad?
I got into Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business but with little scholarship and I am out of state so the cost of attendance is way too much
I need advice to help me choose! I keep changing my mind and decision day is coming closer and closer! I am majoring in Finance
the temple campus is fine; the surrounding area is bad. as long as you live on campus or VERY close, you would be safe at Temple. if you got an internship in center city, you could safely take subway there during day, if you worked late, you might you want to take a taxi back to campus depending on what time you were travelling. did you also post this on Rutger’s page to get feedback about transferring into Rutger’s business school from arts and sciences. i do not recomend Drexel due to cost. however, if you are out of state, is Temple affordable? did you get a scholarship from Temple?
I have to agree with ct1987 regarding Temple’s safety on campus. Our son is also trying to decide between Temple and one other school. We went to see Temple anticipating that we would not want our son going there because it would be unsafe. Also, it might help to know that I am probably the queen of overprotective mothers. That being said, we were pleasantly surprised with how safe the campus felt. We even checked out the Cleary Act reports about crimes reported (told you I was overprotective!) and found them to actually be slightly better/safer than the other school he is considering. Temple went from just visiting there just to verify that we were right to rule it out for sefety reasons, to now being tied for number 1 on the list. Sooo,… decisions, decisions,… Good luck to you!
@ctl987 thank you! and no I did not get any scholarship from Temple (which I am extremely surprised about), it is for out of state students about $32,000
@davenmame thank you!
We were very impressed with Temple. Loved the campus & especially loved the welcome we received from the people at the business school. FYI my S has a friend whose father is a police officer. Police Officer dad thoroughly questioned the security at Temple and he was satisfied with the answers he received. Regarding the surrounding area, you’re in the city so using good common sense is a must. @pceluvjersey you might want to review your out-of-state tuition/room/board costs. We are out of state as well and before any loans or grants, the tuition for the business school is $44,000 per year. (That is factoring in average housing and an average meal plan.) Maybe you were factoring in grants/loans.
My S was also accepted to Drexel; however, the package offered vs. the total cost is simply too much to consider.
pceluvjersey, 44K sounds about right for out of state students, unless new jersey students get a tuition break. Costs for in state students without a scholarship and living in dorms are around $32000 a year. my son was able to shave about $1000 off those costs by being frugal and because his dad and i paid for most of our son’s computer and i am not counting the computer in the college costs. i know out of state tuition is more so out of state students costs are more than for instate students. did you file your FAFSA?
@pceluvjersey We visited Temple 3 weeks ago and before departing we stopped at the financial office and spoke with a counselor. Here’s the breakdown we were given in writing from the counselor based upon freshman admission to the business school for Fall 2015 (subject to any increases, average priced residence hall- not cheapest, not most expensive. 15 meals per week plan. Deduct approximately $200 for 10 meals per week.)
Cost per semester:
$16001.00 Out-of-State Tuition/Fees
$ 3670.00 Campus housing
$ 1931.00 15 meals p/week
$ 500.00 Books/Supplies
$22102.00 per semester to yield a cost of approximately $44,0000 p/year
i agree with mom2tss on this. i should have added we are in state so my 32K a year was the price for pa residents adn as i mentioned, tuition is more(it looks like about twice as much for out of state students). there are a lot of NJ kids at Temple though so it is possible Temple has some kind of arrangment with NJ residents. some schools near state borders have out of state discounts for kids who live just across the border. maybe Temple is one such school.
@ctl987 & @pceluvjersey We’re in NJ and believe you me, we’ve turned over every rock to get that tuition lowered. My husband is over 65 and I even called to see if there were any provisions for students who have at least one parent who is a “senior citizen”. That was a “no” as well.
