Temple University Class of 2025 Discussion Thread

@momandslp

Thank you and congrats to your son too. I was a bit disappointed but it’s nice to receive something, I guess ;).

I keep refreshing my portal to see if I get anything. So far nothing :frowning:

I was really hoping for lots of merit aid, but now I don’t know because everyone else seems to have gotten their letters.

@riverandsasha3

It’s still very early so don’t stress out over it. We just received the less than 30 mins ago and she applied on 10/01/2020 and completed the TU portal’s requirements a few days later so take a break and refreshing the portal a bit later. :wink:

I looked at last year’s thread and it looks like honors invite might be in letter posted to portal. Content with merit only as S is engineering, which is hard enough! Good luck everyone!

can those who received merit please list their stats? still waiting for a decision here, but curious what their merit is looking like this year with covid. thanks!

Son received 10,000 a year merit. 1520 SAT, 103.7 GPA, Lot of extra curriculars and community service. Some awards. Not enough to beat Pitt’s full tuition offer.

@jgmama

ACT: 36 (35/36/36/36)
SAT: 1540 (770/770)
SAT Subject Test: Math 2 (800), Bio (800) - not submitted
GPA: 4.0 UW/4.79 W
Rank: School doesn’t rank
State Residency: MD
EC: Average EC with clubs, music, and First Aids Unit, part time job, etc …
Applied date: 10/01/20
Decision date: 11/109/20
Decision/College: Admitted/Science and Technology
Major: Biology
Scholarship: Provost ($18K/yr) - letter dated 11/11/20

Since we are OOS and my D plans to study in premed track, we are looking for schools that offer good merit and not too far from home. We are hoping that Temple can offer a bit more merit but maybe they changed the way they review the application for scholarship and the pandemic may play a role in the decision. She may end up going to in-state school UMD, which is within our budget and close to home.

Good luck to your kid !!!

@sparkleybarkley Hi again! Was there an honors invite in letter? I expect so. Surprised that Pitt awarded more. D17 got full tuition from Temple and only 10K/year from Pitt (both instate) with similar states to yours. She was 3/550ish in academic magnet HS. Great rigor, extracurriculars, leadership, 5’s on 5 APs, etc. S21 received 5K from Temple. 3.72 GPA in private college prep HS. 1380 SATs, good rigor. Curious who has heard about honors. Congrats!

Anyone get nursing decisions yet?

@momandslp Nothing about honors.

@momandslp and @sparkleybarkley

Perhaps the pandemic plays a role on how colleges give scholarships this year. From what I read in previous years, Temple was very generous with Merit aids, compare to Pitt.
My D also got 20K/yr from Pitt but we are also waiting for Honors and GAP.

It’s a stressing process for the kids but I’m sure it will work out ok in the end.

Good luck !!!

I just got my acceptance letter with 10k/year merit scholarship. I had: 3.96 UW gpa, 1520 SAT, and some decent ECs (mostly theater/music, pre-dental experience, and community service). My school doesn’t rank, and I also live in state. I applied 10/22 and received my official letter today, got in for bio major in their college of Science and Technology. Hope this helps and good luck to everyone!

Wow to all of you . - maybe Temple IS cutting back as you are all so impressive! Also, honors decisions must come later if none of you were invited yet. My guess is that they will post an additional letter later. We loved both Pitt and Temple when we visited with D17. She ended up at Tulane but is now applying to Temple for grad school (speech pathology) along with 5 other schools. The process seems to never end…

@ttb1263 yes, I am curious how covid will impact their merit offers. We are instate, so I think typically there is a little more aid, but I’m not sure. Seems like your daughter’s stats would have been Presidential in the past, but I’ve never been sure how much ECs and the essay impact things. My son is at Temple now studying Bio on a Premed track, with the Presidential scholarship. He is trying to keep undergrad debt free in prep for the mounds of debt with med school. His stats were similar to your daughter, but he had unusual ECs and a very unique essay, so maybe that was in his favor? My daughter’s stats are a little higher than his, and she has a lot of leadership in her ECs, so we will see. She submitted 11/1 so I think we have a week or two to wait.

Received 8k/year Dean’s Scholarship w/ 1380 SAT, 5.37/6 GPA, and ranking of 6/157. Looks like Temple was very generous with me considering my stats ahahah.

@CollegeLover729 Congrats! Are you instate too?

Seems like the amount of merit is also based on state of residency this is from the letter. (this amount is based on your status as a Pennsylvania resident, and is subject to change based on your residency status). We are in-state.

The only thing in my “Next Steps” list is putting down a deposit. Did you guys have to do this before finding out merit? Or should it just show up eventually?

@momandslp yes i am

@riverandsasha3 : Give it a day or 2. My D’s portal just changed today (2 days after she saw the admittance status on Monday) with this statement:
“Your official Admissions Decision Letter is available now. Click here to view.”

After click on it, she was able to retrieve an “official admission letter with merit info” pdf file (it may behave differently between browser and OS- we used Mac OD and chrome).
