Temple University Class of 2026 Discussion Thread

How long did you wait for your decision after application? It’s now already 8 weeks and I can’t wait any longer!!! Btw I know they say it takes round about 8 weeks to make a decision, nevertheless, I would like to now how long others waited.

Daughter applied on October 31 and got a decision on November 12.

It’s crazy how they are letting me wait :grimacing:

Temple gave my S20 an outstanding offer. He turned it down after visiting. The campus itself is nice. Small and contained. It’s the surrounding area that sealed the deal.

I went to Pitt in the 80’s when the Hill was very bad. Kid on my floor was shot inside the dorm. I got a similar vibe from the surrounding area.

Several kids from our HS have taken the money and gone to Philly. I know at least two that transferred out because of the crime. Just look at the police report heat map around campus.

I’m well aware of situational awareness in urban areas. Been there. Luckily we didn’t have to pull the parent card and veto. It’s really a shame because it’s a nice campus and we were very impressed with Fox and the Honors program. YMMV.

My S really liked the campus too. He also got into honors and talked about the ability to stay on campus for four years. Why would you want to have to do that? One of the best social aspects in college is living off campus.

I now follow the Temple University Police Instagram account posted in this thread. I kept showing him the posts. The three shootings in three days post sealed the decision to go elsewhere.

It is a shame.

My son and I just attended a Temple accepted students event. Wow! He is all in and will be committing to Temple this week. We met some very impressive students, from current freshman through seniors, who shared their Temple experiences with us. Temple is a large university that does an excellent job at making their students feel part of a smaller community based on the college or school that houses their major. Even freshman have access to research opportunities and internships.

The campus is unique since it’s a city school, but it has an actual campus that is well maintained and clearly defined. The facilities are top notch, but it’s the people that makes Temple so desirable for my son. The faculty, professors and the students. My son is thrilled to have found his people.

My son has been accepted to and toured Rutgers (our in state school), Pitt, Ohio State, UMD and the University of Florida. We are full pay. His 529 plan will cover the cost of any of these fantastic options. He is very fortunate that cost does not have to be a factor in his decision. He is proud to be choosing Temple.

Congrats to your son! My son attended ETD today and was very impressed. What will your son be studying? My son was accepted into Fox. He’s still waiting some more decisions, but after today he’s happy to be keeping Temple on his list.

Thanks! He will be in Klein and is very interested in the accelerated 4+1 BA + MA in Media Studies and Production. His BA would probably be in communication studies under the direction of Dr. Gratson. He is also considering double majoring in Psychology, which seems very doable based on several conversations with academic advisors from Klein and the College of Liberal Arts.

The weather was awful yesterday! In some strange way, that made me feel more confident that my son was making a great decision. If he was able to love the school in that weather, then I feel like he’s choosing Temple for the right reasons.

Best of luck to your son!

How exciting! Love the weather comment…my son who was raised in Florida traveled for the day by himself and called me after to let me know how positive it was. He then told me how much he was enjoying “the little ice pellets that were hitting his face” as he explored campus.:rofl::rofl:

I know of only great things about Klein. Admittedly, I am biased by amazing personal connections there. Wishing him the best in his studies!

For those who attended a Temple Days event for admitted students, can you elaborate on what the day was like? Did kids split up from the parents? Were there separate activities for parents? Thank you.

Wow! That’s great that your son is confident enough to navigate that trip on his own. My son is adventurous enough, but I don’t think I’m ready for that yet. Congrats to you for giving his his wings!

He is our second and child #1 is a college junior in the Philly area so S22 got to hang with D19. We also have family in the area so it was easy for me to say he could go on his own when he asked to. I get to go everywhere else with him.

I agree with all Lulu_Quinn said. Very well run program. You can even tour multiple dorms if you have the time. The Cherry and White welcome is basically a pep rally and it was fun!
This was our second tour to Temple, so it was a serious contender.
My D won’t be attending Temple (using parent veto due to the surrounding area), but we really enjoyed our time on campus and felt like it gave D plenty of thing to think about on other campus visits.

We were also at ETD this weekend. Great showing for Temple and also for Klein. I enjoyed hearing directly from the students themselves as well. We also attended the Honors Program session, which we really enjoyed. The honors student presentation was clever, witty and engaging. My kid is waiting to hear from Newhouse at Syracuse and then if accepted we need some money for that option to be viable. Like your son, my kid was accepted to Rutgers, Pitt and University of Florida, as well as a few others. She will be choosing Klein over all other options if Syracuse doesn’t come through with $$. Go TU! All the best to your son!

Maybe our students will end up at Klein together. My son looked at Newhouse at Syracuse too. Great program. I loved everything about it, but he did not, so he never applied. Good luck to your daughter!

Anyone heard about the Tyler Portfolio Scholarship? I also got the financial aid package offer today (federal loans + transfer scholarship). Does that mean I didn’t get the portfolio scholarship? Or would that be added on later if i do indeed get the award?
