Temple University Class of 2026 Discussion Thread

My daughter received notification of an Artistic Talent Award on Friday February 17. It was pretty small, an additional $3,000/year, but every little bit helps. I’m not 100% that it’s the same thing as the Portfolio Award.

Also waiting for the same information. My daughter sent an email asking when decisions would be made but no response yet. Sounds like the Artistic Talent Award is portfolio based. At this point, just want to know if there is a chance for more money.

Is your daughter in-state or OOS?

OOS. She also received a small academic merit award. Between the two, they just cover the cost differential for the BFA tuition at Tyler vs the BA tuition ($8,000 / year). The remaining billable charges before loans are still very high ($48K).

I’d like to make this work, but we have two other solid, more affordable (by $10K and $20K per year) options. One is better academically, but the art program isn’t as well-developed/exciting. The other has a pretty solid art program, but is less well known and in a sleepy area.

My daughter received an email today that said the portfolio deadline was extended to March 15 so they are still reviewing portfolios for scholarships.

Anyone receives aid awarded from FAFSA? If so is it released together with the admissions letter in terms of timing? Since im a transfer student i got notified of acceptance and only $2k scholarship for in-state that met the gpa range. But i havent seen any info about federal aid/loans. Does it mean I didnt get any?

Thanks for sharing! This journey is hard! It sounds like a good problem to have i hope that your daughter got in multiple schools and now have options to weigh

I hope it works out for your family too! Options are nice, but, as a parent, I hate to limit my daughter’s choices when the art-specific program at Tyler is so much bigger and better than her other choices.

Check on her application portal under the financial tab.

This is right by campus near Morgan Hall and happened Saturday evening. Students may not be targeted but are certainly caught in the cross fire and have to contend with the fallout from all the crime. Gun violence is out of control in Philly.

3 shootings in 3 days. No students were involved but don’t want to take the chance.

I think parents need to be voicing their concerns to the school, to the mayor, to the governor.

Hello! I recently got accepted into Temple. I am wondering about academic scholarships and admission into the honors college. I graduated second in my class of 190 with straight A’s and a 4.8 weighted GPA. I was the president of three clubs my senior year and won two small international film festivals. I graduated a year early then took a gap year to save money but still be on track to go to college with people my age. However, in my acceptance letter, there was no mention of the honors college or scholarships. I don’t want to sound entitled or egotistic, but as Temple was a safety, I thought I might receive some sort of scholarship and admissions into the Honors College. I have a few friends who applied for it and said they got into the honors college and info about scholarships later, but they applied very early on before Temple was even reviewing scholarships/ honors college. My question is if it didn’t mention either of those things in the acceptance letter, does that mean I didn’t get either?

In S22’s case, scholarship notification came two months after acceptance notification.

This afternoon I, the parent, received a call from Tyler, congratulating my daughter on her acceptance to Tyler. She was already accepted to Temple and received deans merit scholarship.
The person who called was a student ambassador. She thought she was taking to my daughter. I gave her my daughter’s number so she could tell her, but she didn’t call my daughter back. I didn’t get a chance to ask whether she got any portfolio scholarship from Tyler, but my daughter checked the portal and nothing new. Just an update.

My daughter received a similar call last week. Tyler student ambassadors are calling admitted art students to encourage them to attend an admitted student day event (which had already done).
Best of luck!

My S was offered a small amount of $, which was surprising since we are instate. He also got invited to the honors program without requesting it. Good Luck.

When did people hear back about the honors program and/or scholarships? Was it in the acceptance letter? Or did you get it later?

It is later. I can’t say how much later exactly, but information seems to trickle in.

Thanks
