temple university?

i want to apply to temple university, i looked at their admisison factors and i will most likely get accepted (fingers crossed), the only problem is i've heard that the area is extremely unsafe. i've grown up in the suburbs all my life and i don't know if i want to move to a place like that. does anyone know anything about the area?

I know a few people that go there and the area hasn't been too much of a problem, although they are from the city. The area isn't unsafe its just urban.

so is urban suppose to be bad? Temple is not in a dangerous area, its just people who come from the suburbs come with that preconcieved notion that anything in the city core is unsafe and gang infested.....

dammmmmmmit another suburban person who thinks just because Temple's in a predominately AA area in the city it's unsafe. WRONG. I'm in suburban Philly, I go to Temple for college marketing (high school sr.). It's fine. I walk alone. No problem. It's only unsafe if you wander off alone at night to certain parts. (just stay inside the Temple flags).

Oh, great school btw. I love my class.

Despite what people say, Temple is in a horrible part of the city.... it's safe on campus, but if you venture off......

*** are you talking about? For someone in the area you dont know ****. I GO there bro....It's not a big deal. Temple bought a ton of land in the area, knocked down the ghetto housing that wasnt being used. It's fine. I wander off campus every day.

I know what I’m talking about, and I’d like if you kept your rudeness to yourself... There is very little safe about the neighborhood around Temple. Sorry.

just because i don't like inaccurate statements being made, heres a good article, yes the surrounding neighborhoods need to be spruced up but its already in the works. And temple is trying to change its commuter rep into a more residential.

http://www.imakenews.com/innovationphiladelphia/e_article000360459.cfm?x=b11,0,w

All the article says is that Temple wants to be taken more seriously as a residential school. So Temple wants to be more like Penn...... wonderful. This does not change the fact that the area off campus is not a very safe place to be. Will it be safer in the future, maybe, after all the "sprucing up" efforts, but not now. Is the campus safe, sure, but most college campuses are.....

You dont seem to get this...I attend the damn school! I know it isnt exactly a plush island, but the way you talk about it (and i think FSUUF will agree), you make Temple sound like a gangbanger's hangout. The school gets enough bad rep. from idiots who just have bad things to say about it without knowing anything about it. We dont need more people do be dissuaded because of some inane vendetta.

I have no vendetta, and I’m sure I have more experience with the city and school than you, so again, keep your rudeness to yourself.

Well prove it hotshot.... I go there, my dad is an executive alumni in residence, he's taught there, judged graduate competitions, we know both deans personally....I mean beat that?!?

I’m not here to argue with you… All that and you couldn’t do better than Temple, huh

That's a low blow ****. My dad makes more money then you'll see in your entire life from attending that school in Evanston.....
Maybe if your reading comprehension was decent you wouldve seen that I wrote that i'm a high school senior. I'm taking a college class during the summer. Regardless, Temple is my third choice and * if I care if some elitist douchebag doesnt like it.

"Maybe if your reading comprehension was decent "

-That's WERE decent...

"that i'm a high school senior. I'm taking a college class during the summer."

-Exactly what I wanted to hear.. you DON'T go to the school. I don't want to hear your nonsense.....Don’t come on here grandstanding about attending a school you do not. Thanks.

ay can you guys take a break from arguing for a sec and answer a few of my questions about temple? (sorry for thread jacking)

i personally think i'd love to go to temple because it has so much diversity and it's in a big city like philly and would be an easy place for me to adapt to (having lived right outside of DC all my life)... but the one thing that bothers me is that i'm out of state and they are public... meaning i probably won't get a lot of financial aid... and i need A LOT of financial aid. so can anyone tell me how bad (or surprisingly good) their financial aid program is for out of state kids? How much cash could a kid whose parents make less than 20K/year expect to get from temple?

also just to put my input on this whole safety argument it's probably not that bad... i grew up in DC and everyone thinks that DC is a horrible crime infested city but that's not true... CERTAIN PARTS look really bad and have a lot of crime but long as you don't do anything dumb even there you will be safe. you just have to be aware and not do anything dumb when you're in a city, any city.

"you just have to be aware and not do anything dumb when you're in a city, any city."

-Exactly

-Do you think you shall qualify for the honors program and/or merit aid?

FYI Shazilla, Temple is known for giving some of the BEST Finaid packages. They give out a decent amount of money for those who are qualified. It's not a typical thing for a public school to do :)

Great. I'm so sorry. I'm not the one going to Northwestern though, so I'd be more shocked if you made that mistake. Gramur iznt mai thinge.

As I said before, I DO go to the school. I take college marketing there. Technically I go there. I have a student ID like all other Temple students do.
