Temple University

I know that Temple is not a school talked about much, considering they’re more known for their MFA programs than their BAs. However I thought I would post that starting in Fall 2008 they will have a new concentration in Musical Theatre to accompany their BA in Theater degree. Apparently you have to audition to be considered for the emphasis. There are no course requirements avaliable on the website yet, but I’m sure there will be by the fall.

Temple is a backup school I’m considering if I don’t get into my top choice. It seems to have a pretty well-respected theater department, despite the fact that it has no BFA. Also you’re in Philadelphia which has a very thriving regional theatre community. Just thought that if anyone was considering a backup in Pennyslvania or near NYC, Temple may be a good choice!

Great info. I know their music school was well regarded back in the 1970's when my sister did a summer there.

From what I have heard from Philadelphia area voice teachers and vocal coaches, the MT program looks very promising and the faculty brought in to run it are well regarded.

Temple has updated their website and now has the required courses for the MT emphasis, it looks really comprehensive!

I am attending Temple next year for their musical theatre emphasis program. I am an incoming freshman but I know that alot of the kids that are going to be in the program are current freshman theater majors at Temple.
