For history major programs. Also for business. These are three public schools I plan to apply for and I just want some opinions on these programs at each of them.

I'm interested in UH too but not sure with the costs

Academically, I think temple si the strongest?

Is Temple stronger than UT and UH in history AND business?

Temple is a tier three school (as is U H-M) while U Tenn is at about the bottom of the tier one schools (USNWR # 108).

I like Knoxville (much) over Philadelphia, but there's a lot to be said for going to school in Hawaii (no duh).

Knoxville seems somewhat larger than most of the other SEC college towns (Athens, Auburn, Gainesville, in particular; I haven't researched the actual population numbers, but Baton Rouge and Lexington seem about comparable to Knoxville; Nashville, a little larger), and Knoxville is in a mountain recreation area.

I think southern schools are better than usually rated in history (in the South, history is taken personally; someone you just met will expound upon the entire history of a person, place, or thing wholly without provocation).

I've seen the whole tier thing on USNWR but dont really understand it? Does tier one mean better academically?

^^ Look at the USNWR tier ones and USNWR tier threes that you are familiar with an answer the question for yourself.

In Florida for example, UF, UM, FSU tier ones; UCF, USF, UNF, UWF, FGCU, etc, tier threes and below.

The whole rankings thing is a joke. Tennessee is an underrated school for sure, but I think Temple is stronger academically than both UTK and Hawaii. If it wasn't for our North Philly location, and the fact that we recently shed our commuter school reputation, I dont have any doubt we'd be in the top 80 in the US News rankings. For business, there are very few schools more underrated than Temple. $80,000,000 brand new business school building.

Oh, and we beat Tennessee in basketball. :)

^^ Yeah, but did you beat the Lady Vols?

We didn't play them, but we'd probably have a chance this year--they've appeared somewhat vulnerable.

Being an east TN kid, I gotta back my vols :) thats a big perk for UT by the way, in state tuition. But if I did go to Temple, I couldnt bail on the big orange (football & basketball) haha.

UH is not the best run school, but is a very nice location. Its reputation is fine if you want to work in Hawai'i after college, but (as far as I know) basically nonexistent on the mainland. If you're interested in history, it does have some unique opportunities for Hawaiian and Polynesian history, which may or may not appeal to you.

Well if you have any questions about TU, feel free to PM me.
