Hi everyone,
I am an exchange student coming to UCLA this fall.
I will be there before residential houses are open for international students orientation. So I need a place to stay for 4days before Sept 18.
These are the hotels UCLA advises: UCLA Campus Tours - Nearby Hotel Accommodations - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions
But there are a little expensive for me.
What other option may be suitable for me? If there is no other choice, what do you suggest about those hotels which one would be the best one for my situation?

I don’t know how much cheaper you can get, really, for hotels in LA; maybe you can check the hotels websites instead of looking at the rates there (I don’t think they would update them that much and there should be specials and such… I think?). If you don’t mind taking the bus, you could live in a youth hostel like this one…

I don’t know how safe it is to keep your stuff there though. Or how safe it is in general (especially if you’re a girl). I would think they would provide some accommodations for the orientation and stuff o_O’’ Are you sure that they don’t?

hey, do you have a car? If you do then you can stay outside Westwood, which definitely will be cheaper. Go to Expedia.com and ask for hotels in Los angeles so you can see the choices. On the other hand, if you don’t have a car, then your best bet will be to stay at Westwood, close to UCLA. In this case, I advise to stay at the UCLA guesthouse. By the way, the rates shown on that link are outdated and they are higher now (for all hotels). The rate for a single room at UCLA guesthouse is $139 a day, inclusive of tax,(actually, UCLA guesthouse rates are exempt from the 14% hotel city tax, so you save money right there). At any other hotel, you have to add the 14% tax to their rate. As a matter of fact, the cheapest rate at Westwood would be the Best Western hotel at $103 plus tax, so that will bring you to $117.43, and they do include breakfast. UCLA guesthouse also offers complimentary breakfast, free internet, coffee and tea all day long, and is closest to the dorms. So in my opinion those are your best two options. If you decide on another hotel than UCLA guesthouse, I would advise to check the rate offered on Expedia.com and then compare it to the rate offered by that hotel on their website. Good luck!

Hi,

You could try the UCHA Co-op. It’s located right next to UCLA. The website says that short-term stays are $35 a day. Here’s the website:

HOWEVER, the problem is that it says that they only accept short-term stays from July 1st to Sept 1st, so not when you need it. I think maybe you could email and ask them though if you could stay though from Sept 13-17th.
