I was on a wait-list for housing, and about a week or so ago I found out online that I was assigned to Dorman. I was pretty excited to get a dorm assignment, even moreso that I didn't get stuck in Kellum or Smith. Well I just received a letter in the mail today from housing informing me that my room was actually a temporary housing assignment, and that I'd have 3 other roommates staying with me. I'm not too pleased about that to say the least.

How does temporary housing work?
The letter said I'd likely be moved by the first week of classes, is there a chance I will get a permanent assignment before August 19th?
What are the chances of me not getting a permanent assignment?
If I get a permanent assignment, will it be in Dorman, or am I going to have to haul all my crap half-way across campus?
Will I get stuck in kellum or smith? (Don't answer that, let me hope :P)

Only housing knows these answers and they can be helpful when you call. My guess, you are 4 in a triple just until they have a handle on who shows up and what rooms are available. You might end up in just about any freshman dorm that has an available room. Or you might end up staying in Dorman and they move one of your roomates.

I suggest that when you move in, you just take the basics until you get a permanent assignment. You might very well get a permanent assignment sooner. I think the second week of class would be the latest you would move. You could even call housing, and find out if you can leave 1-2 large boxes of stuff in storage in Dorman until you get a permanent assignment. You can have enough clothes for the first two weeks, bedding, books. Leave the other stuff in 1-2 large boxes to store and then it will be easier once you get a permanent room to just move over.

A triple in Dorman sounds like hell. I would keep requesting a reassignment and hope you get something decent. Maybe you could enter the wellness program in Reynolds or Jennie Murphey if you are a girl (those have less demand). Good luck!
