I just checked my housing status on minerva, and i've been 'temporarily assigned' a room in Solin Hall. I wasn't late or anything. They say i will be reassigned to a permanent room, but, they don't seem to be sure of a date. I think they overbooked or something....Is anyone else a temp ??? I hope they make me a permanent before frosh. Does anyone know how long they usually take, and if there is a way i can find out ????

yeh its gonna take a while for them to reassign u...

i was a temp...it took a month to give me a proper room

is it inconvenient? i don't want it to come in the way of making friends and settling in.

yep...

it definitely interfered with my life a lot...

i made a lot of friends in solin in the first month....but then they moved me to gardner and i had to make new friends from scratch...was pretty tough...because after the first month everyone has their friends and its much much harder to make friends like u do in frosh and first couple of weeks...

i guess u just have to make the best of it...mcgill residences are faggots...i really wish i had a permenant room from the start...

nonetheless i am happy i got moved to gardner tho...i wouldnt have wanted to stay in solin

How do I find out my number on the waitning list.
there must be someway of finding out when...

or can i find out what my lottery number was...

call residence office....they are open 10-5 pm mon to fri

purplebanana: im temporarily assigned to solin too.

dkm, in your first month did you have to pay solin rent? I guess that would have been fine for you since it's cheaper, but I'm really not looking forward to pay for being temporarily assigned to RVC.

match: I guess we can pester them to make us permanent....Oh I was looking at your profile, u won't be 18 before september right? Are you being sponsored guardianship by the dean? I am, and i'm pretty sure they said something about permanently residing in the McGill residences, on the sponsorship letter. I wonder if they'll give me preferance or something in the waiting list.

Hey guys. I'm a temporary in RVC right now. I talked with the housing office both on the phone and by email several weeks ago when I first found out. They tried to assure me that I should have a permanent spot before september - because frankly, I would just rather stay at RVC and not get shuffled around. I emailed them asking whether I would be able to stay if I happened to move in come August and get settled. This was their reply:

"At this point we don't know if you'll even have to move into RVC as we
might be able to offer you a permanent space before the move-in date.
If you do move in, there will be another girl in the room and one of you
will probably have to stay in the room and if you want to keep it you
will probably be able to.

We will notify you immediately when we have found you a permanent place
in residence."

So, there is a good chance in some cases that you could potentially stay in the residence you're temporarily placed in. But, like the rest of you, I'm slightly distressed and would like a permanent spot before August. Moving in and moving out a couple weeks or so later does not appeal to me in the very least. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

purplebanana: yea, the dean is my legal guardian till my birthday in november. on the sponsorship letter it just says that he will be my guardian if and only if i live in one of the residences. I don't think we'd get preference to get a permanent room, but im pretty sure they will give us a room for sure, because my CAQ and Study Permit and based on his guardianship. but, i do like the idea of pestering them lol.

mcgillgal88: tht IS good news. i really dont want to move around either. But, dkm008 makes temp assignments in solin sound like such an idea. And, im guessing he is correct coz he has been thru it. did they by any chance mention wen they will notify you of a permanent room?

no, unfortunately. they just told me that it would likely be over the summer before i arrived. otherwise, if worst came to worst, the transfer would take place within the first couple weeks of september (allegedly). if that is the case for myself, i'm finding a way to stay in RVC because I'm sure I will be pretty settled at that point - unless, of course, i absolutely hated it for some reason.

yea, i'd rather stay in solin hall once i settle in.

Did any of you temps get your lease in the mail?

no, not yet.

i havent either

no, the letter said we'd get it when we were assigned a permanent room, right?

i just got my permanent spot in rez! i was placed in new rez, which was my first choice - so i'm pretty happy. best of luck to everyone else who hasn't heard yet. it sounds like they're trying hard to give us what we want.

congrats!!! can i ask what lottery number you were? i'm 1941..grr..(it's on the res letter in the package)
