I needed some advice for housing. I initially got a Foothill double, but I've been trying to switch into unit 1 or unit 3 (to meet more people, be closer to campus, save money, etc.) I emailed housing to be on the transfer list a while back, and I just got this email:

"We have limited, temporary Unit Quad spaces where we could place you until another low-cost option becomes available. A Unit Quad is a study room converted to house 4 students of the same gender, who will then be moved to regular spaces in the residence halls as they open up after move-in weekend. You would have a contract and meal plan, and as spaces open we will contact you to change your contract to your permanent space for the year. The temporary spaces will be emptied by the end of fall semester at the latest, and most likely much sooner."

First of all, did everyone who has more expensive housing get this email?
Also, do people have any advice/past experience with this? How spacious are the quads? Also, are the quads close to people in normal rooms, or kind of isolated?

Hey man. I was initially placed in Bowles, wanted a transfer, and also got this message. I accepted, and they put me in Unit 3, which is very ideal for me. I think they convert the big lounges with the balcony into the “Quads”. Those lounges are huge; more than enough for 4 students. They told me when we get our permanent housing, however, it might not be in a Unit. I might be put back into Bowles or you might be back at Foothill. Either way, the Units are much closer to classrooms, dining halls, and the RSF so I took this option. I also think I’ll have a good chance of getting into a permanent Unit residence, once some older students move out.

You should definitely take the option!

I’m also in a Foothill double and I just got that email
I don’t know, I was kinda thinking about it and haven’t made a decision yet but here are pros and cons of staying at Foothill.

PROS:
-I’m an introvert, lol, so I thought it would be better to stay at the “quiet” dorms. It might be different for you, though, if you wanna meet a lot more people.
-I’m working toward a solid GPA my first semester and it might be better to be at Foothill, since it seems to be more quiet and not as party-ish and social
-I heard Crossroads is good? lol
-I visited the Foothill dorms and they are GORGEOUS, overlooking the bay and lots of greenery and stuff. Really pretty
-I’ve heard Foothill is one of the more spacious dorms, and a Double sounds way better than a quad
-Staying permanently at Foothill might be better than staying indefinitely at the Units, waiting for them to move the people in the Quads out, one at a time

CONS:
-Pretty expensive compared to a Unit Quad
-Not as social, so if you’re wanting to hang out and meet more people if might be better at the Units
-Closer to campus, like you said, but I haven’t compared the specifics of where each of my classes are

Thanks for all the information guys! The quads do seem okay; it’s just too bad that I may not get a unit afterwards. I really want Unit 3! Lemoncat, I’ve heard a lot about Foothill and from what you said it seems like you would enjoy it.
