I noticed that on FAFSA it said you can add up to 10 schools to send the application to. What if you need to send to more than 10? I’ve gotten into 5/6 of the schools i’ve heard back from, and am waiting on about 5 more for just the early round alone, and i’ve applied to a whole bunch more for regular decision. I am fairly certain that i will be accepted into more than 10 schools, so should i wait until i’ve heard back from everywhere to narrow down to the 10 schools i most want to go to? or is there another way to add more than 10 schools onto your FAFSA? because i heard a rumor that the earlier you submit the application the better your chances are for receiving a better package (not sure if any truth behind that)
You can submit the fafsa to some of the schools, and after you have successfully submitted, you can delete those schools from the list, and add new schools.
That’s what I’ve done. But there are other options according to fafsa: https://fafsa.ed.gov/help/fotwfaq14.htm
@latichever thanks, that helps so much! i will definitely do that.
But I’d contact fafsa to run by what you’re doing just to be sure. I’m paranoid that way. I also don’t recall off-hand what to do if you need to revise a fafsa that has been deleted from your list. I think you can just add it back in, but check.
Why so many schools? Anyway you submit the first ten and wait a few days until they are processed, then you go back in remove those 10 and add the second batch, etc. You might want to wait until you and your parent(s) taxes are done so you don’t have to go through all this again and can data retrieve the information from the taxes.
Some of our kids apply to so many schools because they’re not certain of getting into any school they can afford, so applying broadly is the only way to hopefully get one affordable school. My son’s list is over 20. Plenty of admit safeties, but affordable safeties? Nah-the affordable colleges are the ones that are hardest to get into. The college game isn’t so easy for some kids.
