Which do you recommend? Sure, they're not the best in the world, but I want to apply to some in-state schools in addition to DePaul.

I'm mostly looking at MTSU and ETSU. What are the main differences?

I'm mostly looking at MTSU and ETSU. What are the main differences?

Etsu is so much smaller. I don't know what they specialize in. Johnson city is not a far throw from your average small tennessee town. MTSU has a great mass communications program, and their B-school is good as well. Plus it's closer to nashville and much more culturally diverse.

Have you considered UTK? where are you located in tn? I live in knoxville, and i would probably go to UTK except for the fact that their film programs is just a textbook study course and their CS program is a whole in the wall. But they do have some other good programs.

I live in Cleveland. Anything in Tennessee is reachable. My problem with UTK is all the people telling me things like 'If you don't like football or the color orange, you'll be very unhappy here'. Well, I like the color orange (it's an energy/appetite color, according to Chinese philosophy), but I don't like football. I've also heard UT students say, "we're all rednecks here'.

What's in Nashville? Besides CCM, country music, and the Protestant Vatican, that is. I'm non-religious and kind of tired of southern-ness in general, for a number of reasons. I want as much cultural diversity as possible.

I go to UTK and I've never heard anyone say "we're all rednecks here." Then again, I'm an OOS student. There are plenty of people here who do not like football. They just find other things to do, usually take advantage of the empty library and the quietness in the dorms. There are plenty of things to do besides going to sporting events.

UTK is heavily sports centered, but depending on your major, could be a very good school.

As for Nashville, it's an amazing tennessee city. Check out all the non-country bands that have made their record in nashville.

I'm most likely going to major in English or communications (I'm wanting to write).

For communications, (journalism, etc), between etsu and mtsu there i would go with mtsu. I can't speak for english.
