Tennis at Berkeley?

Hey guys.. I'd appreciate a quick reply to this one because there are only a couple of spots available..

I'm a rather poor tennis player and want to improve my game plus the idea of playing tennis in college sounds fun and it fits into my class schedules. So, even though I barely know the game properly, could I still go for the 0.5 unit course on tennis or will I be the only person in that class who doesn't know how to play the game too well...??

I could make up for my total lack in talent/coaching in enthusiasm.. What do you guys suggest?

I know this varies a lot from person to person, but alternatively are there any other "fun" courses at Cal with say like 0.5 credit or something?

Many will be new to the game. You'll be fine. There is a club which arranges to hold courts for certain hours, it's fairly easy to get a court for an hour or two, and many people play pick-up games. There is also an intramural tennis league, I think, and I'm not sure if it's connected to the tennis club. Take the class if you think you can get there everyday.

Any sport you can think of and more will have a .5 PE class. Other than that, it's hard to say what "fun" courses there are. There are some lists L and S makes or someone else makes about newly added and unique courses. I'd just read the whole course catalogue if I were you . . . if you feel the need. There are some lists on the Berkeley websites about what students recommend others take. shrug

wait, the p.e. classes have different levels (intermediate, etc.). so that should be able to tell you how you would stand. also, if that doesn't work, there's the tennis at cal club. i was in it last year and it's pretty good. they have practices (5$ for semester) and also round robin (extra $3 i think). practices were 1 or 2 times a week and you just had to sign up by email. they match you up to play with people similar to your skill level. that's a pretty good alternative for tennis if the class doesn't work out.
