Tennis scholarship

Hi, I have a few questions about the exam requirements in order to be able to get a tennis scholarship. I am planning on taking the ACT test on June 13 junior year, I am an American but living and training in a foreign country, so I’m considered as an international athlete, but an American student. Am I supposed to take the writing part in the ACT test or can I do without it? And I was wondering what are the minimal scores required , I know most universities probably have different required scores, but they are the same?

Anyone?

The only minimum scores would be the NCAA requirements, which are about a 16-17. This of course is way too low for most academically challenging universities. The Ivy league and division 3 schools, some of which are very competitive for tennis don’t give scholarships but do have requirements for admissions as an athlete. The AI is determined using scores and gpa, so there isn’t a minimum score.

At other schools, it will really depend on how good of a tennis player you are. Tennis for women in a D1 school is a headcount sport, so if you get a scholarship, it will be a full scholarship.

Tell us which schools you are looking at and we will give advice regarding ACT. Note that NCAA superscores the ACT so it may be to your advantage to take it more than once.

I can only afford to take it once! Once!! It’s too much to pay and I need to find out if I have to pay for the writing part . If it’s not necessary then that would be great, but if it is then that’s okay too I just need to find out for sure!

Some colleges require the writing section to be completed if you are using the ACT instead of the SAT. Of course some colleges are test optional. I would suggest taking the writing section so that you won’t be limited down the road as to where you can go.

You have to know which schools you are interested in and whether they require the writing part. You might as well take it. If you can’t afford the $50 for the ACT, you must be looking for a full NCAA D-1 scholarship. If you are overseas, you should know that travel to and from school is not included. Even with a full scholarship, you’ll have some expenses.

Top conferences pay stipends on top of full ride. You will be fine if you are really good. Alternatively you may be eligible for Pell grant if you are poor. ACT is not something you should economize on. Borrow if you have to or go feed some balls/do sparring for money.
