Tepper Finance vs. MCS Computational Finance

What is the difference between Finance through Tepper and Computational Finance through the Mellon College of Science?

It would actually be easier to answer what the similarities are as the programs are quite different.

For example - you can actually get a degree in Comp. Finance without taking many “traditional” econ/finance classes. Comp Finance is more like a math degree than anything else. Download a PDF copy of the CMU Course Catalog from CMU’s Hub website and read through the description of the two majors…(though IIRC finance is a “track” in tepper and not technically a major)

I might also add that comp finance has a rep for being way, way more difficult to get into than finance does. You can just take the finance track in tepper, but you actually have to apply to comp finance, as it’s kind of an interdepartmental (math in mcs/tepper) degree. I have three friends who are all trying to get in, and they’ve mentioned it’s highly competitive (3.8+ GPA) and equally selective about courses. But it’s apparently great for making srs money after college.
