Tepper School of Business Admission Question

Admission Statistics

the link to carnegie mellon's admission statistics says that the average gpa for tepper is 3.66. Is that for admitted students or the entire applicant pool?

if its the latter, then does anyone know what the average stats of the admitted student is?

thanks for the help in advanced

It's admitted students.

oh wow 3.66 for admitted students? i always thought tepper was really really competitive. is it because the gpa is recalculated by the admission officers to include just academic core classes or what??

3.66/4.0 is not a low average GPA. Did you think it was weighted?

no i thought it was unweighted (and possibly didnt include freshman grades either?? not sure)

but isnt a 3.66/4.0 the same thing as a 91.5/100?

if so, yeah i think its a low average GPA for tepper because i thought was really competitive with a very low 14% admission rate

sorry for the double post, but does anyone else know anything about why the gpa for admitted students to tepper seems so low?

Not all schools have grade inflation. And that's presumably an unweighted grade. Note that the mean rank is 4%.

hmm unfortunately my school doesnt rank...
but thanks the rank is a lot more telling of the quality of admitted students than the gpa

Even if your school doesn't officially rank, it's likely that your GC will give some indication of an approximate rank in their recommendation.

don't just look at the GPA.look at the rank for teeper admits./highest among all the schools at CMU

I believe rank is like average 4% or something, that is a lot of valedictorians-esque as well as top 10%. I don't believe CMU takes into account stuff like gym classes or whatnot and it is definitely not weighted. With the rank and SAT scores, the 13% acceptance rate is representative of the difficulty of admission.
