Hi everyone, I recently went through the term change process to switch my start term from Summer B to Fall for my freshman year at UF. When I was doing research term changes at UF, I couldn’t find that much information so I figured I’d pass along the info that I’ve learned.
So essentially, I applied to Fall and was admitted to Summer B due to being lesser qualified, most likely. My GPA was average for UF’s previous admission years but was on the low side for the 2017 admission year.
I submitted my request on mid-Feb. (the first day decisions came out). I requested a change due to my summer job as a manager at a restaurant and told them that I needed this money to contribute to the cost of my education. So my advice to anyone else requesting a term change would be to cite financial need ( you have a job, etc) or cite a specific event that you need to attend during the summer. (another student was in her dad’s wedding during summer and got her request approved, as well) Also, they give priority to students who have already committed to UF when going through the first round of term change requests. So commit early if UF is where you are going, but you would prefer to attend a different term.
I believe @gatorash01 is 100% correct. My D changed from Fall 2017 to Summer B. She didn’t give much of a reason, she just said she wanted to start early. I think since there are fewer students moving to Summer B it is almost automatic, you just take the spot left by someone switching to Fall. Moving from Summer B is harder but I think demonstrating the need to work during Summer would be given a lot of weight.
My D was told the the term changes would be processed starting in early to mid-April through mid-May and priority would be given to those that had committed. To me the wording sounded like “commit first, then we will try to accommodate you” so she pressed the button and I paid the deposit. Her term changed was processed with-in 12 hours of her committal.
