Terrible financial aid!!!

My family cannot afford more than 10K and all ive been awarded is 10K. Is there a way this can be negotiated? I really wish to go to MHC. . i am soo upset rite now..

Do you have other financial aid offers from other colleges? Those offers can often be taken in for use in negotiating with the financial aid people. It can never hurt to try and explain your situation to Mount Holyoke and see if they will readjust your package. Good luck.

I applied only to a few colleges (very few). I have been waitlisted at Carleton College and Colby College and accepted to Mount Holyoke. So this really is the only option for me to consider in the US.

I have been awarded the Leadership Award of $10K, is that a need based scholarship? Is it that they have not provided me with financial assistance at all?

I have been awarded the Leadership Award of $10K, is that a need based scholarship? }}

No, it's a merit scholarship. Holyoke has decided you don't qualify for need based aid so they gave you the 10k as a way of giving you some help.

Not sure why you applied to only 3 colleges though.

generally colleges give priority financial aid to people within the US and the international students don't get as much... I know its not a great deal :-/

I spoke to the admission office and they said that they would get back to me on the issue as some information may have been missed. Waiting optimistically..

MHC has a good work study program that can help get rid of some financial debt stuff
whyyy does money suck so much!?

abbalina where in md are you from?

silver spring
its right outside D.C.

are you from md also? or familiar with the area or something?

yea..I live in Baltimore. I'm about an hour from DC. Are you def. going to Mt.Holyoke?

yeah i am definitely going to mhc
are you?
are you going to the experience weekend thing this weekend?

yea I am going but I was admitted for spring semester. I unfortunately cannot go to experience weekend because I have youth & government in annapolis this weekend.

I went last week though during spring break and went to classes and spent the night in the dorms- it was awesome!

I was admitted for spring semester/Jan. @ wheaton (waitlisted at mhc), what are u going to do in the mean time during the fall? I'm just asking because I want to see what people are doing hwo are in the same boat as I am..

congratz on mhc though!

I'm going to work for the fall the then make up missed classes during j-term in second and third year. i think everyone does something a little different but i really need to work cuz my fin. aid package wasnt all that great.

congrats on wheaton!

i got a terrible fin aid. they offered me only loans. i can't be in debt for the rest of my life if i have b-school to consider.

i'm not smart enough to receive scholarships and not poor enough to receive money. sigh

congratulations to those who were accepted :)

madonnaisawesome06 - You need to check the Mount Holyoke J-Term schedule. Most J-term classes are no credit. Some are 1 or 2 credits but they are not the same as fall and spring semester classwork so "making up" what you are missing the fall 2006 semester will be difficult if not impossible to do in J-term.

summer classes are good for making up credit too
