Terrible First Semester

So, I just found out what my grades are and out of 6 classes I have a C in four of them. I have an A in English and a B in my Biology Lab class. C's are like death to me and I can't help but feel depressed with a 2.5 GPA when in May I graduated with a 3.7 in high school. The C in my Biology lecture class is entirely my fault for lack of studying and note taking but the others just feel unfair when throughout the whole semester I've kept a B in each class. I don't know...I'm just feeling blue right now, I don't even care for the month long winter break, just want to go back and have a better second semester.

THIS IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL! I took 17 credits and got an A, an AB, and 2 C’s, plus an A in my 1 credit class. my GPA is a 2.9. I am soooo frustrated by my grades and can’t wait to get back and give my classes hell next semester and do better! I think if I do worse than a 3.5 next semester I will quit college :frowning: My classes will be slightly easier next semester 'cause I won’t have a math class so I am hopeful though

I laughed out loud.

Quitting is definitely not an option for me as I’ve had only one job which virtually gave me no experience. My classes stay the same as I have to continue taking general biology and general chemistry with labs but I will no longer have English or ethics; instead, I have sociology online and a speaking class.

How were you studying for your classes in general? Did you read chapters before class and review notes/homework often? Why did you do poorly on the finals? Was it lack of studying or were the exams inherently tricky?

Well, in biology he had us do online chapter homework as a way to become familiar with the material he will be teaching the following class. In my chemistry lab class we always had a pre lab to complete before the scheduled lab time, in chemistry lecture class I mostly just wrote down what she had on her power points including the practice problems and the quizzes she assigned online. If a test in chemistry was coming up I usually just practiced more. There was never a test in biology because we had a quiz every Monday for which I prepared for by answering the learning objectives for the week. Ethics is a philosophy class so even if I did the reading I had no idea what it meant but I did do well on the one and only test we took before the final. My C+ in ethics took me by surprise the most because I had a solid 84% in that class without my B on the test in the grade book. I assume I did poorly on the final for it to drop so many percent but I don’t know my actual score.

This turned out to be long, I’m sorry.
