Hook of sorts: My dad works in admissions at a private institution in CT. Through him, I've met and spoken with admissions officers/deans/high-up-people at nearly all the schools to which I'm applying and - according to my dad - I've left good impressions on all these people. For example, I've had dinner with the dean of admissions at Williams - at his house - and spent a good amount of time talking with him.

You seem rather solid. I mean, you don’t pop out, but that is how it goes in these threads. Anyway, you stand a good chnace at almost all, with D, W, and A being reaches, as they are for almost everyone. Anyway, good luck dear, and oh, your GPA is not that bad. Sure, you had a rough start, but you pulled through and made it to the top 5 percent, a definite feat. Kudos, and, well, I hope we BOTH get accepted to D and W, for I am applying there too this fall. :P

Haha, we’re almost identical in the fact we’re both white girls from top public schools in CT.

Anyway, you’ll have no trouble getting into UVM and Hamilton, if you raise your SATs and continue working hard senior year, you definitely have a shot at your top 3, but they’d still be pretty decent reaches. Considering most colleges recalculate your GPA for their own standards, I wouldn’t worry about it being “low.” Just keep working hard and you’ll be fine. Good luck!

If one of the deans can pull you in you clearly have a great shot.

Coming from a top CT high school comes with it’s own set of issues. Your classmates are your first line of competition and many will be applying to the same colleges. Good chance many are legacies at these schools. In the end, how you stack up against them will be key. The CT pool is a tough one, get the scores as high as you can.
