Lots of other tennis accomplishments.............I devote a large amount of time to playing and practicing, as you can probably tell.

I am also signed on with a recruiting agency... I'm basically going to get into some of the more selective places (if I get in) because of tennis. However, this would probably be division 3 schools only. D1 is almost impossible to make.

Sorry for the length of the post. Chances for the following please.

Ivies
UChicago (Chance for Recruiting)
Wash U (Recruiting)
Bowdoin (Recruit)
Carleton (Recruit)
Swarthmore (Recruit)
Williams ( " )
Amherst ( " )
Wheaton (Illinois)
Depauw
Northwestern
Colgate

By the way, I'm interested in Business/Econ and/or LAW, so if anyone has suggestions for other schools that are great in these areas, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention UMich. I'm in state, and feeling like I will almost certainly get in.

I think you have a great shot at all those schools. Recruiting might tip you over the edge if you might otherwise have been waitlisted. Write an essay about...I don't know...cleaning up garbage?

Edit: And 2020 is NOT a terrible score.

You still have time to get that score up! It's the summer. Just buckle down and spend a few hours studying every day.

I'm sure you can get a good score by then.

If you want UChicago, make sure you also want the academics attached to the school. At Chicago, every athlete I know is a student first.

Thanks unalove. That's exactly it. I want the academics first at wherever i go, which is why i'm looking at prestigious D3 schools that don't offer scholarships for athletics instead of some junky D2 school that could give me a full ride. Academics first!

One more thing. How could i forget my most amazing accomplishment to date? I won my high school talent show in the dance category by performing A Million Ways as made famous by okgo........I'm gonna plaster this all over my applications.......I also shred guitar haro to pieces.

hero, my bad

hahahahaha. Since you're considering yourself as a student first and an athlete second, I think the schools you're looking at will be much happier to have you than if you were the other way around. I know next to nothing about D3 recruiting, so I assume that you know how to get yourself on the radar and such.

If you have any Chicago-specific questions, please PM me.

Thank you for the help unalove...I may PM you shortly. Anyway, let's get on with the chancing and suggestion making....

You would need to be actively recruited to get into most of those schools.

WashU doesn't give any preference for recruits, as a student from my school was shocked to find out last year (33 ACT, 4.0+ but not val/sal, band, great school, lots of EC's, recruited, waitlisted). U of M is pretty much a given (just don't wait too long to apply if they're still doing rolling admissions next year!). DePauw should be a yes, as is Wheaton. Probably Colgate, too. Northwestern probably requires a little higher SAT/ACT, but you never know.

UChicago, Carleton, Williams, Bowdoin depend heavily on your writing skills and/or WHAT you write. Be especially attentive to essays for these schools.

Your list of schools is interesting. Look into the cultures at each of the schools very carefully. I am a bit surprised to see certain choices, given certain other choices. I won't comment on specifics ... just make sure you know what the student body is like & make sure it's a good "fit" for you.

"I am also signed on with a recruiting agency"

What on earth does that mean? It's basically just some agency that is willing to take anyone as long as they pay tons of money, right?

phoenix - as you may know, the NESCAC schools (Bowdoin, Williams, Amherst - on your list) have a slot (or tip) system. Coaches are allowed a certain number of slots (for tennis - probably 2 or 3) that the coach awards to top recruits that apply ED. My S was successfully recruited by a NESCAC school, was offered a slot, and was accepted ED. Admissions gave a positive early read off his transcript and SAT scores in September and coach offered him a slot, but only if applied ED. He really loved the NESCAC school and preferred the security of the slot system after anectodal reports of kids getting burned despite being "recruited" by Yale or ____ fill in the blank.

Rower4: To an extent. Basically, the National Collegiate Scouting Association, the agency that I am working with, takes my academic and athletic statistics, edits a skills video, and sends out my complete "profile", if you will to college coaches across the country. It's not just some gimmick. I have had a huge amount of positive action from many coaches saying they would love to have me. I'm not saying this to be cocky, I just wanted to describe to you what exactly the agency does for me. However, it is certainly not cheap.

Kelsmom: Thanks for the input. I realize that the list is extremely diverse and/or seems too prestige heavy, as if I'm not pursuing a truly good fit. However, this is not true. Wheaton is probably the perfect match for me. I was just interested in my chances at some more selective schools as well.

Thanks for the tip Daffymom. I was actually not aware of that, but I will look into it.

Here is link to a 2006 Business Week article about admission to Amherst

Scores based on just math and critical reading
SATs of 1150 to 1240 not admissable since 2004
SATs of 1250-1300 admissable for highly desirable football & hockey
SATs of 1310-1350 Some minorities and athletes

http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_09/b3973092.htm

Might want to look at Holy Cross-similar to Colgate. Holy Cross is SAT optional, has very strong alumni network and located 1 hour from Boston.

Phoenix, your list wasn't too prestigious! Nothing wrong with prestige. My concern is that some of the schools are different enough from others that I wonder how well you know the overall vibe. It's good to apply to a variety of schools. Just make sure you "fit."

For example, some of the schools my D thought she'd like fell from her list after she did some research. She read blogs & student publications, looked at clubs on campus, monitored the campus event calendars, etc. One school has a back to school sex themed party put on by the student planning board. She doesn't care what other people do, but she just felt there were a number of schools that offered social activities more in line with her interests ... this school dropped off her list of potentials. It's okay to go out of your comfort zone, as long as you think you'll be happy there.

I have visited Northwestern, WashU, and DePauw. I really like them all!

BTW, are you from the west side of the state? Something about your list makes me think you might be.

No, from the east side. Closer to Detroit. Once again, I know what you are saying. I realize that a lot of the schools are very different from one another on my list, and I am not naive enough to think that each of those colleges will offer roughly the same experience. A lot of them are just quite difficult to get into, and I wanted to see if my stats might qualify me for admission.

Thanks for the input so far everyone. Please keep the chances and suggestions coming.
