A friend of mine applied to a college EDII and was notified today about whether he was admitted.

He checked at the right time and was told he was admitted, and got the acceptance and everything. Two hours later, he got an email saying that his admission has been revoked because they have "reviewed his application again." How is this possible?

I didn't think the admissions process worked this way, and feel terrible for my friend. How could this have happened that way...?

Why would you be asking here instead of calling the school? And how, BTW, is anyone supposed to give any kind of informed answer (assuming someone might be familiar with how this happens at a given school) if you don’t give the name of the school?

Well it is not me in this predicament, but I just feel terrible for my friend and don’t see how this is fair to him at all.

It is Vassar College. Sorry for ambiguity.

Person should call admissions and inquire about change in decision.

This is not normally part of the admissions process. Vassar had a technical glitch and accidentally posted acceptances for some ED2 students it was actually rejecting. Horrible. Some people actually spent an hour thinking they were accepted, jumping for joy with their families, etc, only to learn the truth and have their happiness crushed.

Yeah, it’s not fair to the student at all.

If that’s what happened, it is truly a horrible error. But it’s also not unprecedented. In fact, this very thing happened last year to several dozen applicants to the University of Delaware: [College Computer Glitch Leads to False Acceptances for University of Delaware Applicants - ABC News](<a href=“College Admissions Glitch Leaves University of Delaware Applicants Disappointed - ABC News”>College Admissions Glitch Leaves University of Delaware Applicants Disappointed - ABC News).

Yes, it seems to happen from time to time. I remember hearing about Yale sending 10,000 acceptance letters by accident on April 1st and having to correct that mistake.

Now I am scared something like this will happen to me.

I remember a story of a school in California (UCSD I think?) that sent all applicants the acceptance letter.

Then they revoked those acceptances for over 25,000 of them.

Not a very nice April fool’s joke.
