Terrible social life?

Doing research, I have stumbled upon a lot of complaints from past graduates that the social life at Babson is horrible, and from multiple sources. Is there anyone currently attending Babson who can elaborate on if this is indeed the case, or if this is no longer the case?

Hey bigheb!

This is certainly no longer the case, but it was valid about 3-4 years ago… so any recent alum probably has that opinion for good reason. In 2007, Babson did a major social life makeover and set aside a large portion of its budget towards on campus events and student satisfaction. If any grad from 2008 or earlier came back, they wouldn’t recognize the campus life at all.

There is something happening every night (especially second semester, since there is at least one Senior SODA every night). But our busiest nights are Wednesday (Themed Pub Night), Thursday (TKE Parties), Friday (Live Music), Saturday (Could be anything: Knight party, a sports team party, frat party, ONE Tower party, Senior SODA, Pub, junior suite party, etc…).

There are also plenty of varsity (DIII) sports games, free giveaway tickets to a Red Sox or Celtics game, discounted ski trips to Vermont and New Hampshire, tons of restaurants/shopping nearby, parties at Wellesley (5min away), BC (10min) and other colleges in Boston (20min). For getting to Boston, Babson has a shuttle that runs to and from Boston every few hours until 3am on weekends, and stops at the most popular bars/clubs in the city.

I have to be honest though, if you want to go to a wild party school-- Babson isn’t for you. The students here work very hard and are driven and passionate enough to be able to balance the heavy course-load and partying. There are many schools where you can get away with partying all the time and not working, but not here. if, however, you are capable of managing your time, there is plenty for you to do on and off campus.

Plus, this school is a small campus so you feel like a rock star when you walk into a random party and know half the people there ;)

I hope this helped? Let me know if there is anything else I can answer…

Ah okay. Yeah it looked like most of the people who said this graduated 3 or 4 years ago. This definitely helped.

And my wish is not to go to a party school. In fact, I’d prefer not to haha. My main concern was the possibility of being overworked plus having absolutely nothing to do to ease stress, but the latter part seems nonexistent now. However, while I’m aware the workload at Babson is notoriously tough, is it excessive to the point of hindering personal well-being?

Of course not! Personal well-being is always my #1 priority. I actually spent my freshman year partying a lot and did little studying, and I got by with B’s and one C+ in statistics (HATE math). Those grades don’t match my current expectations, but my freshman year priorities were about having fun. There were multiple occasions where I went out in Boston / played rockband / went sledding instead of studying for a stats quiz… which was reflected in my grade. If I had cared just a little about my stats grade, I would have gotten a B.

Your priorities seem to be more balanced than mine were, so you will definitely have no problem working during the week and having your nights and weekends free!
