Hi everybody. So I just took my ssat and got my scores back today. I got a 78% on the quantitative and the verbal, and got a 75% on my reading comprehension. The overall was a 74%. (2133) I'm very nervous of what to do? I am applying for Newark academy and not sure if they will accept this. I am good at swimming and somewhat good at basketball (I'm involved in a bunch of other stuff). I am in eighth grade so yea. Does anybody think this is enough to get in?

I used to go to Newark Academy (I moved out of state) and 74% is fine. If you have the good grades and personality they are looking for you will be fine. I don’t know how different 9th grade admission is from 6th grade admission but I received around 63rd percentile on the ISEE and still got in because I had good grades and was a promising student. The SSAT is a very small component in the admission process. Have you interviewed yet? The grade you are applying to has some good kids. When you go I guarantee you will enjoy it.

I don’t think a score in the 70’s is terrible at all. Grades and recs matter more than standardized test scores, which reflect how you did on a single exam on a single day. Grades and recommendations demonstrate how you perform over time, which is much more important.

@needtoboard thanks for your personal experience info, I have not taken my interview yet, I will have it on January 9th when I go to my day visit. My grades last year were all A’s however, this year I sorta messed up a bit in the first marking period and had 3 B+, however I am doing a lot better in the second marking period (however I don’t think I will get an A in Multimedia). I play basketball, swimming, I take art class, play the piano and trumpet, and go to a foreign language school (Mandarin).
@Rellielou Thanks for the info too. I am PRETTY sure that I have good recommendations

74% seems fine. Keep in mind that an average has people below it and above it. I could not find an average online, but I’m sure your score is not an outlier. Just say positive! Good luck!

@ccnaf14 Thanks to you too, honestly I freaked out when I saw that I had 2 78% and one 75%. I was REALLY hoping for at least an 85% so that was why I was so upset
Glad to know that I still have a chance to get in…
