Ok, last year as an 8th grader i scored well on the SSAT 92%
This time, I just got them back and got a 71%....I am literally in tears right now
Verbal Score 698, 66%
Math Score 731 69%
Reading Score 686 64%

Should I just forget applying to Exeter, Andover, and Deerfield, because I know i will not be admitted with these scores?

Did you study this year? Because if you scored 92 as an 8th grade then didn’t study much then as a 9th grade you would have gotten in a lower percentile. (I am not trying to be harsh but to try to understand why your scores are like this) If you haven’t had an interview you can always explain this there and also there are people even on CC who have with much worse scores gotten in because of other reasons. Your acceptance doesn’t depend solely on your SSAT percentiles.
Follow your dream, just do what you need to do, it will all work out in the end. Winners never quit and Quiters never win.

Actually, I think I studied more this year than last year.
I have my first interview with Andover tomorrow, what should I tell them?
And I dont think I have ever seen a person with lower than 80% get in…

dont worry they look at your best score not the most recent unless thats your best. Just make sure you have good grades, effort, and that you are happy and awake on the interview. Good Luck :D

is that really true!!!
Because i was going to apply last year but then realized I wanted to stay one more year but i Still sent my scores to exeter and andover.

don’t bring it up in the interview unless asked… and you have great EC’s so I wouldn’t give up. My SSAT scores last year were high 70’s and I didn’t have any major hooks (maybe one or two tiny hooks) and I got wait listed and apparently last year the applicants test scores were highest in school history. So don’t give up.

You will get into a good school and it is true only the best ones are sent. I am in 8th and I am also staying for 9th at my day school. I got a 93 this year and next year if I get a 40 it will be ok because they only look at the best score and if you get good grades you are fine. I know this because my sis got a 99 in 8th and a 98 in 9th, the schools got her 99. I know I hate that she got a perfect score its depressing. DONT WORRY IT WILL BE FINE

well when you apply this year they will still see your 92 and so will Deerfield.
What I am saying is that they will only get your 92 and not your 71.
Don’t worry!

Andover has had people with a score lower than 80% get in because they look at the whole transcript. if your grades do not match your SSAT they will just think you are not a good tester. But they will not see the 71 only the 92, and don’t bring it up in the interview. In the interview only talk about your strong points because they will see your weak points for themselves if there are any :). If they mention a weak just try and reroute the subject to something you are good at.

E.X: lets say your bad at math but really good at English, Interviewer “So I see your struggling in Math, tell me about it” (this is just an example I don’t know how they would really try to get at it) you " Well I have recently been trying to raise my grade in math and I am determined to raise them it an A. But a subject that I have had no trouble in and I love is English. ETC… "

Thanks. I’m just so stressed out about this and I feel like they automatically reject anybody will those kinds of scores. but thank you soooo much you cannot possibly believe how much better you have made me feel(:

no they will only take you scores from the year that you are applying
if you apply as in 8th grader for 9th grade and take the ssat in 7th and 8th grade they only look at the 8th grade one

lax4545 is right, lullabyducky is party right but party wrong. It is true they only see your best scores, but only from the year you’re applying. They will not see you 92, only your 71 unless you retake it. Srry but its the truth

They don’t see last years scores it says so on the SSAT website… Although they may see them if they pull your file from last year of course. Just retake in January, I hope you do better Good Luck and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays!
