Hey guys, I'm a prospective junior looking to apply to the University of Georgia next fall. I had a couple questions after receiving a recommendation from my counselor encouraging me to apply under a less popular major than my preferred finance in Terry. However, so I've heard if I want to be in Terry with my preferred major, I have to apply with that being said as my top major instead of applying under an easier major to ensure my admission. Does anyone have any insight on the difficulty of switching into Terry as a freshman at UGA from a different, non business major? Because if it is very difficult to switch in, I'd prefer applying under a business major instead of having to switch. All comments are appreciated.

It doesn’t matter. All freshmen are put into the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences as pre business majors because you can’t actually get into Terry until you apply at the end of sophomore year. People change their majors all the time and it will literally have no effect. Whether you choose finance or religion or Chinese, you will be in the same college and it will have no effect on switching into Terry later.

I’d go ahead and apply as finance. I’m in the Terry college now (accepted to the MIS major this semester) and unless you are very very borderline, I doubt it will make a difference. You can literally change your major online though so if you think it will help, it’s no big deal.
