What are the major differences between the SAT and the ACT besides the science section and the vague charge that the SAT tests your ability to reason while the ACT tests what you know?

SAT test vocab, ACT doesn't
ACT math has trigs, SAT doesn't
SAT essay is more general, ACT is more school-related

I personally think ACT is easier than SAT.

SAT is more about format, so it is more coachable (imo). ACT is more about timing than material (you should've learned most of it in school).

ACT has much stricter time limits than the SAT.
ACT doesn't penalize you for wrong answers, SAT does (-1/4 a point for each wrong answer).
SAT has a stupid experimental section, the folks at ACT are nice enough to omit this.

Overall ACT > SAT.
