Looking for a comprehensive list of schools that have announced TO plans for fall 2022 admission. Has anyone found anything or working on one themselves? I’d be happy to help maintain something on CC as I know schools are making announcements regularly. Anyone as hopeful as I am that this trend continues to be widespread?
This is my favorite list, and appears to be current:
FairTest | The National Center for Fair and Open Testing
There are many other lists online, for 2021:
2021 Best Test Optional Colleges - Niche
Thank you. I have seen a few as well, this looks pretty comprehensive!
Like you, I am very hopeful that this trend continues to be widespread. My biggest concern is that while many schools continue to be test optional for Fall 2022, will the Honors applications and merit award/scholarship options remain test optional.
However, this list historically has not been completely accurate. For example, California State Universities were in the past and are currently listed as “test optional”. But in the past, only applicants to non-impacted majors at non-impacted campuses with sufficiently high GPA could go test optional. Currently, the entire California State University system is test blind (not test optional).
Verify test required / optional / blind status with the college directly.
Scholarships, of course, can be another matter, since test scores may be required or very advantageous in getting them, even if admission is test optional.
@ucbalumnus it says right on the site:
“NOTE: This list includes institutions that are “test optional,” “test flexible” or otherwise de-emphasize the use of standardized tests by making admissions decisions – without using ACT or SAT scores – for all or many applicants who recently graduated from U.S. high schools.”
When I post this list on the forum I usually write that it is a list of schools that are test optional or that deemphasize scores, and that merit scholarships may still require scores.
Thanks for clarifying. I still think it is the best list that I have found. Folks should always verify and discuss this issue with schools.
Princeton announced yesterday that it will be suspending its standardized test requirements for another year. Students applying for the fall 2022 semester are welcome to submit test scores but won’t be penalized if they don’t.
