Test out of intro chem in college?

I got a 3 on ap chem, and it doesn't give me credit at most places. Can I still test out of chem 101?

This depends on what your goals are. Organic is not going to demand most of the skills they test you on in freshman chem, so you can probably take organic if you want.

However, you are probably not prepared for other upper-level chemistry courses.

Remember, the test said that you do not grasp the material at a 4 or 5 level. Ask yourself why that is. Are there other metrics which say that you do understand the material? Which metric do you actually believe?

My undergraduate institution did not grant AP credit for chemistry at all because of the high failure rate in organic, so take this advice carefully.

Your school most likely offers the CLEP test for General Chemistry. To test out of a full year you need to score equivalent to getting a 3 on the AP test. I did it, and tested out. I recommend it.
