Test score help!

Hi, I'm wondering do I send my scores in now or do I wait for my 9/21/13 test results to come in. I have a 28 at the moment and put on all my applications that I am taking one in September. So if i send my scores in now will they make a decision before my next scores are ready or will they know to wait. I am doing single choice early action, so I am worried that they will make a decision once they get all the materials and not wait for my next results. Thanks!

They won’t decide that quickly, but I see little reason to wait if you are a Louisiana resident. I am guessing you are because of your screen name. Tulane has a policy of automatically admitting residents that have at least a 28, a 3.5 GPA, and some other criteria. Check it out on their web site [Tulane Admission: Louisiana Applicants](Louisiana Applicants | Undergraduate Admission). So if you are a resident, why wait?

However, I feel compelled to say that if you really want to go to Tulane you should have picked a different screen name, lol.

A friend of my son is applying as well and will be retaking her SAT in October. She had the same question, especially as it might relate to potential merit money. She called her ad com and was told to submit the application without test scores, only the dates and future date. Good luck to all…

That’s true, jozuko. But in this particular case where the OP is an in-state applicant (I am speculating) and merit money is probably not an issue unless they raise their ACT tremendously (which is fairly rare), the issue of admission is potentially settled already. For all other cases, it does make sense to hope for better test scores as long as it is still relatively early in the EA cycle, which early October certainly fits.

My D1 was in a similar situation 3 years ago (she is now a very happy Junior at Tulane). She submitted her application in early October and included a note to ask that they wait for her October SAT scores. Two weeks later she was accepted with merit money. But shortly after that she received her October SAT’s and she had gone up 140 points! She submitted her new scores and it took a couple of months and several emails back and forth, but Tulane ended upincreasing her merit award and admitting her to the honors program. It all worked out well but in retrospect she should have waited for her October scores, because who knows, maybe not all admissions counselors were as great as ours!

Mumof2: that is very true. S1’s scores went up significantly as well, and our adcom told us we had to wait until April to resubmit for additional merit and she would handle it then. It never happened. I think it can vary with the adcom. Ours was less than enthusiastic and not a Tulane grad, or affiliated in any way other than employment. I think that makes a big difference IMHO. I am happy to say that the one who is currently the adcom for our area is a HUGE improvement: a Tulane grad, enthusiastic, and helpful.

I’m also assuming LA resident and as long as the other criteria is met for auto admit, I’d suggest waiting to send the test scores as it certainly can’t hurt but could make a difference in merit money. Just make sure to have the application done by the EA deadline of Nov. 15.
