TEST scores > GPA??

does anyone know if nyu looks at good act scores and it balances from moderately weak gpa's??

I have a 34 act!!
but i have a 3.2 UW, 3.6 ish W GPA.

will that awful GPA ruin it?

bump? 10char

I think it depends a great deal on which school you are applying to within NYU. They will also read your essays very carefully to look for an explanation for your GPA- were there extenuating circumstances like a major family trauma, an illness, a problem you’ve overcome, etc; they will look for an upward trend. Your ACT is great, and shows you have mastered content. Your extra-curriculars and personal statement are very important now to counteract what is not a bad GPA by any means, but a low one for NYU’s average acceptance. They will also look at your school profile that the GC sends and will look at how you compare to other students at your school. If the GPA is low overall, that will carry weight. If you didn’t “get with it” until senior year, you could work that into a compelling essay. Get help with that from an English teacher or trusted adult. You’ll need to explain why NYU is a great fit.

Yeah, i’m applying to the Liberal Studies Program, which I is slightly easier and less strict than the other schools I believe. Thank you so much for the help, lightingmom.

You should make regular NYU but it will be pretty hard for you to make Stern unless you ED to it. If you ED then you may have a chance

^ the OP is not interested in Stern

I dont know if this helps, but applied ED1 with ACT 28 and UW GPA 3.6 and W GPA 4.14. I was accepted and got into Liberal Studies Program

I hear nyu does not care much about gpa. My sister got 2050 on the sat and had a 3.1 gpa

^ And got accepted.

I am pretty positive that you will get in. I got accepted this round ED1 with 2160 SAT and like 3.3 uw gpa

3.0 UW, 3.6 W GPA, 2110 SAT.

I applied to CAS but didn’t get in, but I did get a place in LSP.
I think essays helped a lot.
